4 weeks old and constipation

This poor baby is miserable. When he was on exclusively breast milk, he went 6-8 times a day. Now, since doing 50% formula, he hasn't gone since Saturday! I called the pediatrician yesterday, and she said to give a teaspoon of prune juice in each bottle, and to use a rectal thermometer to stimulate him to go. I've been doing that since yesterday, and still nothing. Any other ideas? There's no sense in taking him to the doctor, is there? I know this isn't my first, but I didn't have this problem with DDs.

Probiotics helped DS. We put him on Nutramigen which has probiotics in it, and he was much more comfortable. But you can buy probiotics separately and just add it to whatever bottle you're feeding.

Can you call the ped and ask if you can give him a suppository? Also do bicycle legs and gently massage his tummy in a counterclockwise direction.

Thanks ladies. I've been doing the bicycling of his legs, and rubbing his belly, though not counter-clockwise...I'll try that. I've also been giving him the Gerber Soothe drops, which I think are probiotics, but maybe I should give him something else?

call dr and ask about milk of mag. Very safe and effective. But you need correct dosage.
