4 week old eats too much?
My twins recently started demanding 4 ounces and dd will sometimes wake up after 2 hours crying for more. I nurse her in between their bottle feedings about once or twice a day. They are getting breast milk and one bottle of formula at night bc I cant keep up with their demand.
Is this something to call the ped about?

Re: 4 week old eats too much?
At 4 weeks DD was taking 3 ozs every 3 hours and she was FF. BM gets digested quicker and you also don't know how much DC is getting when you nurse. Could be more could be less. It doesn't seem like anything to call or worry about but I'd discuss it with Dr at the 1month visit. We always discuss what DD is eatting.

4 week old eats too much?
I wouldn't call the Dr. Every baby is different and there is no right amount they should eat. I always fed DS on demand and gave him until he stopped drinking. He was FF so it was easier but they will not over eat.
DS still gets as much food as he wants. He quits when he is full.

Re: 4 week old eats too much?
Funny you should ask this. I just came from the dr.'s office with my 6 week old son. I was told he is eating too much and gained too much weight!!! He drinks 3 oz of formula every 3 hours and currently weighs 9pds 12 oz.!!! They said it should be 2.5 ounces for every pound they weigh in a 24hr period. So my son should be drinking about 22 ounces and is getting 25. It's rediculous to say he is drinking too much if you ask me.

Hmmm... I'd round up to 10lbs and 25ozs a day seems perfect. Every baby is different and each day is different. So I try not to get hung up on the "rules" Plus 6 weeks is about when babies go through a growth spurt. I think you are fine.

Re: 4 week old eats too much?
Does she do this consistantly? Once in awhile One of my girls will finish a bottle (3.25-3.75 oz) and want another oz. Then drink a normal bottle then next feeding drink 2.75 oz. I still kinda feed on demand. I think its different for premies too. Are they even on the percentile charts yet? My girls were just 3 and 5% at 6 weeks and thats just when they made the charts. I think they want more when they go through growth spurts too.

Re: 4 week old eats too much?
I EBF my 6 week old twins. I feed on demand. They feed every 1-3 hrs 24 hrs a day. Needless to say I'm always feeding. When they r going through a growth spurt they eat every hr or more. My one guy was just weighed at exactly 6 weeks and weighs 8"11. They were both premies and roughly 6 pounds at birth. My doctor was happy with his weight. My older son gained 3 pounds by 4 weeks. He was a chunky healthy baby. I fed on demand with him as well and he ate a lot. the amount of bm was never measured bc I didn't pump. The pediatrician was always happy. I personally do not thing u can feed a newborn too much. I wouldn't worry. With that said it is exhausting! I don't know how I do it some days. Does the formula hold them a little longer at night? By 3 months I'm considering supplementing one bottle at night bc I need some sleep!?

MY dr said you can't overfeed a baby until he/she is several months old. They stop when they are full.

Oh man it doesn't. I was hoping you would tell me it gave u a few good hours of sleep!!! Yes fm me anytime. I've been down this road once and now again with the twins. It's crazy but I remember with my son feeling like it got easier as three months. He still nursed all night but somehow I just got used to it lol. I'm hoping it gets easier again soon!!!

3 months is an eternity. How long do your twins take to nurse until they're satisfied? Mine would never unlatch if it were up to them which is why I started pumping.
Also maybe my kids are weird but they sleep 4.5-5hours after their midnight feeding (bm) then they get formula and last night they woke up 2 hours and 59 minutes later.
