4 month old eating
we are starting our DD on foods, Doc said to alternate between cereal, oatmeal and barley along with apples, bananas and pears...my question is what brand of barley do you use? I plan on giving her my own fruits so if I use the beaba food maker for the fruits is that ok? I haven't used the food maker yet, any tips or suggestions when preparing the fruits?

we never gave barley because i could never find it in a store.
Making baby food isn't too difficult - just cook the fruit/veggie (everything other than bananas and avocados should be baked/steamed/boiled) and blend it up. If it's too thick, you can use some water from the cooking process (except in the case of carrots) or plain water / formula / BM. If it's too loose, you can add cereal to it to thicken it up.
Best resource for this was Wholesome Baby Food (it's a block, just google it and you'll find it).
Have fun

4 mnths is pretty early..is she showing signs that she is interest? I used Beechnut oatmeal & Gerber cereals. As long as fruits are smooth your good. Some start with veg first.

I used gerber cereal.
My ds started at 4 months and never had issues eating so it's not too young.

Yes, our ped feels she is drinking way too much formula and she is teething badly, holds herself up, drooling ...all the signs that she is ready.
What brand did you use for barley?

Barley is very hard to find in the stores, so don't drive yourself crazy! My mom found Gerber barley for me in her local Stop & Shop one time only. I never saw it anywhere.

Dont use barley ..my baby likes Beechnut & Gerber oatmeal so i use that. I mix fruits or veggie in it when we first started. Now she eats what we eat mostly (let her feed herself). Try rice. From what you described ..she sure sounds ready! Good Luck.

It seems like it is hard to find , then why did the ped say to try it?

4 month old eating
My 4 month old just started solids last night and the doctor said to start with cereal and fruit. I picked up the Gerber Rice one and the Gerber Organic Fruits(bananas and applesauce). DD loves the bananas but wasnt a fan of the cereal. I never used the Barley with my other DC it was always rice or oatmeal.
