4-eyed folk: How do you clean your glasses?

I just got a new pair of expensive glasses, and I want to make sure that they stay perfect for as long as possible. I used to just run my old glasses under warm water and wash the lenses with dishsoap, then wipe them dry with a paper towel.

I bought some of that alcohol-based cleaner, and it's truly awful!!!! It leaves smudges and smears no matter what I do! So now I'm back to the water and dish soap.

Is there a better way??!!

The thing that has always worked best for me is plain hot water, and wipe with a Bounty paper towel. No streaks or spots, ever.

actually the best glasses cleaner is GIN! no joke. works better than ANYTHING. i use that and a washcloth - i try not to use paper towels because the paper scratches.

I use the satin(?) cloth that it comes with.

I just got a new pair and they came with a cleaning cloth. Before that I always used dish soap, water and a paper towel.

hot water and microfibre.

I used the cloth that comes with my glasses, then every once in while I actually wash them with soap and hot water and dry them with a facecloth

When I had glasses.... I used to use Windex w/a tissue or paper towel (used softly).

the best by far is the lenscrafters glasses wipes- they sell them in the store and sometimes give them out free

Rubbing alcohol and a very soft cloth or tissue.

The best thing I've found is a microfiber towel - the ones I use to clean mirrors, etc. I don't even wet the cloth, but it gets my glasses super clean.

I use the lens cloth that came with my glasses. No scratches at all and they are over a year old.

My old optometrist ave us cleaning liquid and you could refill for free! So I use that sometimes, otherwise a soft cloth that i have. If I don't have a cloth to rub them with, I use one of DH's undershirts. I figure its softer than paper towels?

ok, well there are 2 questions.... how do I clean my (poor abused) glasses, and how should one clean their lenses if they want them to last....

to do it properly, you could even use dish liquid and/or warm water.... but NO PAPERTOWEL. those $$$ coatings rub off with a coarse papertowel... dry off with either lens paper or the special silk cloth they give you with your glasses...

how do I do it? I merely wipe them on my tank top (usually while at a traffic light)

I have a pocketbook sized cleaner and cloth I bought at CVS - it works great
