Q? Anesthesiologist at Winthrop
will Winthrop assign an anesthesiologist that takes my insurance, or will I have to mention it at check in? When I was admitted there after a car accident, the ER doctor is outside of my network, and we end up having to pay $$ out of pocket

I have no idea - I didn't even think to ask this question, but everything wound up being covered. i would call now to be 100% sure so you don't have any surprises.

Re: Q? Anesthesiologist at Winthrop
I think you will get mixed answers to this one. The insurance company will likely deny it - but it is my understanding that you can fight it. You would then appeal in writing. The worst case scenario is that you should be able to submit it as out of network - but I would still fight it with insurance.
BTW in the ER you have the right to fight the bill - and should not have had to paid out of pocket b.c in the ER it is considered emergency treatment and so you don't have a say in whether they are in your insurance or not.

Re: Q? Anesthesiologist at Winthrop
I called Winthrop, they said that I will have to inform L&D to have an anesthesiologist who's in my network to be on call around my due date.
you would think they will take care of this seamlessly.. but this is another thing a pregnant woman have to worry about

My insurance covered the cost completely. I didn't know I was supposed to mention any thing when I was admitted. (I have HealthNet)

Re: Q? Anesthesiologist at Winthrop
i had something similar when i went to the er last year. i called my insurance and sent them the check the hospital sent me. they eventually send me a EOB and a check for what they did cover that i sent to the hospital. i didn't have to pay anything.
i think it's tougher to get out of though if you KNOW you're gonna be in the hospital, so i'd call and make the arrangements as it'll probably save you a headache later on. that being said i'm sure you can get out of that as well. a friend of mine got a bill for $36,000 for when her daughter was in the NICU and they had only out of coverage doctors treat her. needless to say she didn't pay that bill, but i'm not sure what she did to clear it up.

I have GHI. I never even thought to ask this when I had my DS. Luckily, my insurance covered it.
