my birth story
after work 01/17/09 i started getting regular contractions, but not so painful. i work in the hospital, so i went down the elevator to OB triage. they checked me out and i was 3 cm dilated. they had me walk around for an hour and a half and rechecked to see if i had progressed. still 3 cm after 1.5 hours, so they sent me home. i was a little disappointed, b/c i was already full-term at that point and becoming very uncomfortable still working 8 hrs. on my feet.
fast forward to inauguration day 01/20/09... i was watching all the events on TV and started having the regular contractions again, but they were stronger, more painful and coming every 3-4 mins. i watched barack get sworn in and then left for the hospital...
i thought... what a good baby. she made sure the day i was laboring, there was plenty of entertainment on TV, LOL.
by the time i got to the hospital (40 mins. away) the contractions were about every 2-3 mins. and i was 4-5 cm. dilated. they admitted me (hooray!)
i was given my epidural by 5:30 pm and by 10:45 pm i was fully dilated and ready to push.
too bad DD did not want to come out. my epidural was too strong. i couldn't feel my legs, and they said my pushes were not effective enough. they cut back on my epidural, gave me pitocin and that is when i thought i was going to die. i was in so much pain i started vomiting =( and just pleading for them to turn my epidural back on... i was in so much pain i could not focus. i was about to plead for a C-section, but the doctor and nurses and residents cheered me on that in a couple of more pushes, i'd have her out.
after a few more pushes after receiving the pitocing i did! i wanted her out by midnight, but she wanted her own day. she did not want to have to share it with mr. president! LOL.
so on 01/21/09 my esme rose entered the world. i've always at least three children, but after that experience (which was completely different from my son's, who i had out in fifteen mins.) i don't know.
but i am so happy to have her. i still can't believe i have 2 children now. i have my boy and i have my girl. i feel incredibly luicky!

She is just beautiful!!! Congratulations and reading your story just gave me chills and has me scared to death lol...the whole in so much pain you were vomitting part i was lik OH NO!!! lol

Congrats, Daphne!!! Your DD is beautiful and I love her name -- it's so pretty.  One of these days we have to GTG. Maybe if it ever gets warm we can meet up at a park with the kiddos.
