35mm Camera **UPDATED - Got One**
I'm taking a photography class at Nassau that requires me to have a 35mm camera capable of manual operation. I need a bunch of electives and this seems to be an interesting class.
Where can I find an inexpensive one? Anyone have one that they are interested in selling? I really don't want to spend alot b/c I am hoping to purchase a digital slr in the near future.
I know nothing about cameras!
TIA!

Re: 35mm Camera
I'm too chicken to buy something off craigslist b/c i'm always freaked out about going to someones house that I don't know. I actually found one on ebay 2 minutes after I posted that seems perfect, so we'll see how that auction goes.

Re: 35mm Camera
B&H has the Nikon F75 body for $124. you could probably get a cheap lens to go with it, depending on what your class suggests.
eta- actually this Vivitar might be better since it has a lens in the kit.

Re: 35mm Camera
Thanks for the input. I just won an auction on ebay for a Cannon EOS Rebel G 35mm. I got it for $38.77. I hope was a good deal!
This is the description...
The all-black Canon EOS Rebel G is a fully automatic, ultracompact, and quiet SLR camera that comes equipped with a built-in retractable flash. This kit also includes a 35-80mm detachable Canon EF zoom lens. The Rebel G features a high-speed selectable three-point autofocus system and Canon's exclusive AIM (Advanced Integrated Multipoint) control system which links the Rebel G's three-point autofocus to multizone metering for available light and flash. It offers 11 exposure modes (full auto to metered manual with indicator) plus multiple exposure, exposure compensation, and auto exposure bracketing. The Rebel G features an enhanced command dial for mode selection, and is fully compatible with Canon's complete line of EF autofocus lenses and EOS system specialties, including battery pack BP-8, grip tripod GR-80TP, and remote switch RS-60E3. Features like autoexposure bracketing (in one-half stop increments up to plus-or-minus two stops) and E-TTL autoflash (enables high-speed synch for automatic fill flash), as well as improved control of red-eye reduction, the in-focus beeper, and the autoexposure (AE) lock make the EOS Rebel G more advanced than previous Rebel models.
Product Description Easy to learn and use and packed with features, the EOS Rebel G is an ideal "step-up" camera for anybody who needs the simplicity of point-and-shoot photography but also wants the flexibility of interchangeable lenses and flash. The Rebel G offers three-point (wide) auto focus coverage, resulting in fewer out-of-focus pictures of off-center subjects. Auto focus is standard, but if you are shooting moving objects that are going towards or away from the camera, the Predictive AF mode will keep it sharp. Along with standard exposure modes, the Rebel G offers four PIC modes, which adjust the camera to the best settings for portraits, landscapes, close-ups and sports.
**************************************************************** Camera was used very gently and infrequently, has been in dry storage since purchased. Has very little signs of wear, looks almost new!
Anyone have this camera? Do you think i'll need to buy any extras for a basic class?

Re: 35mm Camera **UPDATED - Got One**
I do have a film Rebel from about 2002 I used it all the time. Funny enough I recently took a class on the new Rebel at Adorama camera and didn't realize it was on the digital version!! Took my old camera into the city, bought film and was the only one who didn't know it was for a digital.
The students passed my camera around like it was a fossil!!

lol...Hopefully I got the right camera for the class! In the description of the class, it says "A 35-mm camera capable of manual operation to be provided by the student", so I think i'll be okay.

Re: 35mm Camera **UPDATED - Got One**
you did it has a M on the dial which switches to manual. I am sure there is a AF/M focus on the lens. You will just have to learn which dials to change for your shutter speed and aperture.

You got a great deal on that camera! I bought a Canon Rebel 35MM from Ebay 1.5 years ago to play around with and paid about 75 bucks. I brought it to Italy and too AMAZING pictures. Something about film that is so nice.
