How do consignment stores work?

I have a bunch of stuff- that is too good to just get rid of, and I am sick of ebay. It's too time consuming and I just need to get stuff out of my apartment already.

Does anyone know how they work?

And does anyone have any recommendations for good ones, either in NJ or on LI?? I have mostly women's stuff-- some good men's shoes and some costume jewelry and watches.

I believe that the way it works is that you give them something to sell and don't get any $ until it does sell. and they take a % of the sale.

I heard good things about a place in East Northport on the corner of Pulaski rd. & Larkfield rd. I think its called Act 2 consignment.

THere is a high end consignment shop in rosyln on old northern blvd.

I went in there, and they explained how it works, you leave the stuff there until it sells and then they take a percentage


They had very high end merchandise, as well as hard to find things.
It was a cute store, and the prices were high, it wasnt that cheap, which is good cause you can get some good money for your stuff

There are high-end consignment stores in Short Hills and Westfield.
