347 Last Night?

Anyone know what happened on Route 347 last night by the HOme Goods shopping plaza, heading South/West? They had a small section closed, you had to be routed through the Home Goods plaza, traffic was backed up for miles & miles. We got stuck in it at 6:30pm, and then on our way home at 9:30, they still had it blocked off. Earlier, we could see 1 SUV, but then there was Crime Scene tape around the area, then on our way back later, there was a firetruck spraying stuff.

We're hoping no one was seriously injured...they just had it closed for soooo long, you wonder Chat Icon

Re: 347 Last Night?

Suffolk County Police Sixth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that claimed the life of a pedestrian in Port Jefferson Station.

Jason Brazier, 28, of 655 Belle Terre Road, Port Jefferson was driving his 2005 Chevrolet TrailBlazer westbound on Route 347 in Port Jefferson Station when pedestrian Felix Rodriguez, 39, of 560 North Bicycle Path, Port Jefferson Station was attempting to cross the very congested roadway. Rodriguez crossed the first lane of traffic but was struck by Brazier’s vehicle in the second lane.

Rodriguez was transported to Stony Brook University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead a short time later. Brazier was not injured and according to witnesses he had the right of way. At this time it is unclear why Rodriguez tried to cross the busy roadway.

That's what we were fearing, that someone was killed b/c of the crime scene tape and the long investigation Chat Icon We saw the white SUV there, along the median, and lots of debris on the road in front of it.

That's really sad Chat Icon Chat Icon

That is so scary! Sometimes while your driving at night, its hard to see someone crossing the road. Especially a busy road like 347.

Yeah, I agree...I don't know exactly what time the accident happened, but when we were trying to get through at 6:30pm, the ambulance had already been there & gone, so it must have happened at like 5:30pm or so I'm guessing.
