34 wks - weight gain

I'm now at 34 wks and have gained 33lbs. My OB said she might want me to go see a nutritionist. Granted, I have not been watching what I eat as carefully as I did with my first pregnancy, but heck...33lbs is not THAT bad!

I passed my glucose test and I've had friends/family who have gained upwards of 50lbs and don't get a hard time from their OB's.

Just venting!

33 lbs is defintiely NOT that bad at all - aren't most people supposed to gain between 25 and 35 lbs anyway? sorry your dr gave you a hard time Chat Icon

Honestly, this sounds like a bit much to me. You probably won't gain very much in the last few weeks, and you aren't so far from delivering. I gained 40 total, lost 3 before delivering. My doctor didn't say anything about this.

You can go to the nutritionist, or skip it and just watch what you eat the next few weeks. I wouldn't worry about it.

Mean doctor - what's a nutritionist going to do at this point except tell you that maybe you could have gained less??? Chat Icon Chat Icon

33lbs is not bad, IMO. I gained a little more than 50lbs but at 4 wks PP I have already lost 30 of it just from BF...

Take care of yourself and your baby. Don't worry about what the Dr. says about your weight!

I think it would depend on how much you weighed to begin with. My OB is the same that if he feels that you are gaining too much weight, he will tell you. (I never had to worry about that.) Chat Icon

I gained 40 lbs at my 32 week appointment. The dr. made me upset too. I wasn't told to see a nutritionist but she did say to cut out the carbs. I am seriously not worried about it. My bp is fine, my glucose test passed, I am still active and I feel great.

your doctor is probably jelous, i would not worry about it for one minute you are supposed to gain this much weight!!!, you will loose it after the baby is born.

Re: 34 wks - weight gain

33 pounds isn't awful but keep in mind that you really don't need to gain any more than 30 and you're going to gain the most in your last weeks. So you'll probably end up around 40-45 pounds total. That's probably why your doctor said something. It's hard to not gain a lot at the end but just try to be careful with your choices.
