Curious, For 35 years and older with Poll
How many of you are getting (or had )an Ultrascreen and Amnio?
I am leaning towards to not having neither done. Just want to know if I am alone on this.

If you are going to have an amnio, there is no reason to do an ultrascreen.
I knew I would have an amnio so I did not need to do the ultrascreen. The ultrascreen is not accurate but the amnio is as accurate as can be.

I was 35 when I had my daughter. Opted for an ultrascreen, which came up fine. If it came up with issues, I would have pursued an amnio.
When I was 39 & we were considering another baby, I would absolutely opt for a CVS test (at 10 weeks). We have known chromosome issues in the family. We learned this after having 2 children. I would not chance having a 3rd without knowing what chromosome issues we were dealing with.

I had both - no CVS - I plan on doing both again for baby #2. I need to know everything. I am a person who second guesses and I feel I'll never second guess if I did the right thing or not if I do all I can BEFORE my kids are born. I also have a very good reason. FM me if you'd like to know why.

I was 33 when I conceived Caden and 34 when he was born...but I already have a child with Down Syndrome so may chances may be increased.
We took a wait and see approach...did the Ultrascreen (were happy with the results), did the AFP (were happy with the results), had a Level II done by a Perinatalogist instead of a tech (were happy with the results)...had there been any abnormal findings on any of the screening tests we would have opted for the amnio.

I'm 34 but I'll answer anyway. DH and I decided we would NOT terminate our pregnancy so there is no reason for us to do either. We were considering getting the ultrascreen but after talking to the genetics counselor and telling her we did not plan on doing amnio she said there was no reason. Two of the Drs in my practice told me they thought it was a good decision especially because of the high false positive rate for multiples

Yes, you don't need an ultrascreen with an amnio.
We did the ultrascreen and figured we would consider an amnio if the results weren't good. Since they were fine, we skipped the amnio. I was 39 at the time.

This is exactly how I feel. What's the point if we are not going to terminate. As for the amnio, the risk is just too great for us.

I think there is a reason because there is a risk with amnio-no risk at all with ultrascreen

This is exactly how I feel. What's the point if we are not going to terminate. As for the amnio, the risk is just too great for us.

I chose not to do an amnio. It was a difficult decision to come to as my test results from the ultrascreen were slightly elevated. After discussions with DH, the genetic counselor and my OB, it was the best decision for me and my family. I would not terminate the pregnancy regardless of the results so there was no reason to put me or my baby at risk (however slight that risk might be).

I chose to do an amnio.
I don't think that it's a matter of terminating a pregnancy, it's a matter of being prepared.
If my amnio had come out with findings of Down's I would want to be as educated on the matter as much as possible.

If you have chosen you want an amnio- then there is no reason for the ultrascreen. I knew as soon as we got pg with #2 that I wanted to have an amnio, so there was no offer of an ultrascreen.
With DD#1, had the ultrascreen come back positive for anything, I definitely would have had an amnio.
At my practice, my risk for chromosomal abnormalities was actually HIGHER than the risk for miscarriage.

I did no testing when I was pregnant w/Hayley.
This time I am 36 so we did the ultrascreen and all results came back normal so we didn't do an amnio.
