3 year olds and pre school

What did your 3 year old boy wear to pre school ... DS is not potty trained yet. I have some Carter's denim jeans that have a zip and snap at the fly. I can not find much with elastic waste pants except sweats/ fleece and do not want him to wear those everyday. Do they get really messy coming home from pre school? His school did not mention buying a smock or protective apron.

Ds was potty trained when he started but other boys were not.
DS wore anything, some elastic sweats, some jeans, some cargo pants, shorts, etc.

His teacher was able to help him do buttons, he just had to be able to pull up and down his pants, wipe etc. They can't help with the act of going to the bathroom but did help with zippers, buttons etc.

DS never came home really messy, maybe food on his face (he is the world's messiest eater), and dirt on his knees, but nothing major. We had to bring in a smock, I just used an old Tshirt in a larger size for him (he wore a 4-5 the shirt was a 6-7)

DS has been anti button for the past year. He wears elastic pants and t shirts. He loves characters on his shirts. All the kids dress pretty comfortably to preschool.
