3 year old going into the bathroom with you?

Maybe a little TMI, but Where do you stand on this? DS just turned 3 and he always wants to come in the bathroom with me if I have to pee or to talk to me when I'm in the shower. Today, I had to take care of some AF issues and he insisted on coming with me! I had to leave the bathroom and then run back in and lock the door when he wasn't looking. Then he cries at the door and yells "let me in!!!" How do you explain privacy?

Everytime Im in the bathroom the light goes on and off 2342354 times, she closes the door so I cant see anything, takes the paper, tries to read to me...
I havent taken a peaceful bathroom break in 3 years.

DS comes into the bathroom with me, but when I need to take care of those issues, I ask him to go get something for me. Usually something in a room far away so that I can quickly do what I need to do before he comes back.

Ds just turned 3. At home I sometimes let him in bc we are trying to potty train him. On our trip to Disney I had to take him with me during af . He said you change your diaper ? Lol I just said yes and that was the end olf that convo

I have a 2 and 4 year old (boys) and I haven't gone to the bathroom by myself in a long time. :)

I usually try to sneak into the bathroom when she's not looking. Or PP said. I will ask her to go get me something, or go check on her sister, or go ask DH something.

I've taught my 3.5yo that "Mommy needs privacy" but he can stand outside the door and wait for me.
This backfired a bit because now he'll go in the bathroom, close the door, and ask me to leave -- he says, "Mommy, "I" need privacy."

ha I don't know the last time I've gone to the bathroom alone when it's just me at home! I try to run and sneak quickly if I can especially if you have AF, all I need is DS asking a million questions that I don't know how to answer when it comes to that. He asked me one time what the tampon was and wouldn't stop asking lol

I guess it's a little different when you have a boy but I don't make a big thing out of Emerson following me in I guess because she's a girl. I don't know. I do make a point of covering up when I get out of the shower, more because I feel a little weird, but with going to the bathroom (TMI) I actually like that she comes in because she is NOT potty trained and I want her to see how easy using the toilet is, that it's no big deal, and even Mommy goes potty. KWIM?

I think in general explaining privacy to them at this age is so hard because in their little minds it's a hard concept to grasp that sometimes people need alone time when all they know is being with you 24/7. I know with Emerson she would get upset and really, truly does not understand if the bathroom door was closed and she couldn't get to me whenever she wanted. I think the idea of privacy is over her head right now. I think once she's potty trained it's something I will focus on because I do want her to understand that not everyone should see your little tush and that going to the bathroom is something you do alone but for now, I don't think I have a choice but to keep my bathroom entourage!

I just have to say that this made me laugh out loud because THIS is something my son would say. And, I actually heard his little voice in my head saying "you change your diaper?"

I am so used to DS coming in with me I forget to close the door half the time!!
