2nd time around ladies

What are you doing about furniture for the new baby? DD is 3.5 and she had a convertible crib. We converted it to a full size bed. I'm not sure who to buy new furniture for? I have the matching tall dresser and dresser that we put the changing pad on top as our changing center for DD now.

So does it make sense to convert DD's bed back to a crib and just buy new furniture for her? Or leave hers as is and buy for the new baby? What is everyone else doing?

my DS's crib is also one that converts (its still a crib though now). I am going to use it for the baby and get him a toddler bed (they will be sharing a room though). It's white so it will prob end up being with my DD as she grows (as will the dresser as its white too) and I will buy new furniture for my DS when he is older (wood, etc). We are trying to sell our place so hopefully will have a bigger place in the next couple of years and they will have their own rooms. If not, I will prob eventually do bunk beds once the are older and use the headboard from the crib in a spare room.

Re: 2nd time around ladies

we plan to give the new baby the crib (still set up) and that furniture. DD (will be 23 months then) will get a big girl bed and all new furniture in a new room.

Re: 2nd time around ladies

ds has a convert. crib.. he is only going to be 15 months at the time so we really cant take him out of a crib... but my sil gave us her old crib so he is actually going to be switched to his new room (since the nursery is yellow and we nicely have a blue spare bedroom) and will sleep in the crib that my sil gave us with a dresser that we already have in there.... and then the new baby will go into the nursery

Re: 2nd time around ladies

It depends....if we have another girl than we are going to get DD # 1 big girl furniture. She will be 2.5 and give the baby her furniture.

If we have a boy then we will buy new furniture for the baby and just convert Chelsea''s crib into a bed. Her set is white so I figured we'd get a boy a wood color that is convertible also.

Re: 2nd time around ladies

Well, we got rid of Ava's crib because it was recalled and I did not want another from the same company. I am giving the new baby her old dresser/changing table and just buying a new crib to match. The dresser is already out of Ava's room and in the soon-to-be nursery, so it's just easiest this way.

My DS will only be 14 months when the "new" DS arrives in February. We ordered new furniture for the new baby at Behrs about 2 weeks ago.

DD#1 will be 14 months when DD#2 arrives. We will be buying a crib for #2 and they will be sharing a tall dresser for a while. They also will have two closets in their room. Chat Icon

ds will be 20 months when DC is born. I'm thinking we will keep DS in his crib for 4-6 months after. the baby can sleep in the pack and play. then we'll buy DS toddler bed and regular furniture, baby will get DS crib and dresser

Re: 2nd time around ladies

I have been trying to figure out the same thing now. I think I may just convert DS bed back to crib and not buy another-it just seems to make the most sense to me right now I will not really use ANOTHER crib and I will buy DS a new set then convert the new baby's furniture over later.

DS is 2.5 and still in the crib. We are going to get him a big boy set of furniture and transition him to a new room. The nursery will remain (furniture and room) for #2.

Since your DD is already in the full I would say leave her and get another crib set for the baby.

DS also had the crib the converts into a bed. We bought him new furniture/bed and DD now has the "baby" furniture.

DS's crib has already been turned into a full size bed, so he will be keeping his room as is. We will buy new furniture for the baby.

DS will be 20 mos when the new baby arrives, and because they're both boys we decided to keep them in the same room. We bought bunk beds, hoping older DS would see them and want to leave his crib and sleep in a big boy bed, but I think it made him love his crib even more.

SOOO, DS #2 will be in a bassinet in our MBR until he either outgrows it or DS#1 is ready to move out of his crib.

Re: 2nd time around ladies

Congratulations Jillian on your pregnancy!! How exciting!

We bought new furniture for my older daughter - a big girl twin bed, dresser and mirror and she moved into another bedroom. The baby kept the old furniture, crib, dresser, comforter etc....

it all worked out nicely.

I think it would be nice to get the new furniture for the older sibling - it makes them feel special and it makes for a nice transition and the baby really won't know any different.

Re: 2nd time around ladies

I have no idea what we're going to do. We bought DD a convertible crib and all the rails, but we haven't converted anything yet.

I think it depends on the sex of the baby. If it's a girl, I may just buy DD a toddler bed and put the new baby in the crib. If it's a boy I may buy him a crib and convert DD's to the toddler bed.
