2nd birthday party at home - THEMES???
My DH is pushing to do a simple at home party for DS' 2nd birthday. I was really against it at first because I'll be 8 months pregnant then, but I said I would do it at home if we only invite his cousins and our immediate families, and have a pizza and cake party.
DS actually likes pizza and it's the one food he asks for by name and if he ever sees a pic of pizza or a pizza box, he immediately says "pizza pizza pizza!"... so I thought maybe make it a pizza party theme?
He's SO into Yo Gabba Gabba, but that was his 1st bday party theme so I'd rather not do that again.
Doesn't really like anything else although he is starting to finally show a little interest in some other Nick Jr. shows.
What theme would you do? Or just do basic colors?

Ann's 2nd party was pretty much just RED and I threw in whatever Clifford The Big Red Dog stuff I could find on eBay or print from PBS kids!

Oh he likes cars now (not the movie, just literally any moving cars) and balls, he LOVES balls. No specific favorite books except for I Love You Through and Through.
Oh, he does love Scout (LeapFrog). He's kind of over the phase of hugging and carrying Scout around, but he definitely recognizes him in pictures etc. Eh, not sure I'd want that to be a theme though. I'm not a huge fan of green lol.

I like this idea, but I just don't know what I could throw in (character wise). I was thinking to choose two colors and then add in a few things to make it a "theme" - just what to choose?

You could do a chefs party if you have a decent amount of kids....
Buy Bobboli pizzas for the kids with all different toppings and they can make their own pizzas....
You can buy them chef hats and aprons (and even have them decorate the aprons)...decorate the house like Italy or an Italian restaurant....

Why does there have to be a character?
Can you do just a "pizza party" theme...like maybe checked tablecloths ala an Italian restaurant. I've seen pizza slice plates too. Maybe green, red and white balloons. Chef's hats for the kids or something...

Re: 2nd birthday party at home - THEMES???
After spending $$$ on my dd's 3rd bday party last week, I learned that all you need for a successful kiddie party is pizza, cake, music, TONS of balloons and space for the kids to run around.
I'm keeping all of my DDs parties super simple from now on!!
If you really want a theme, why don't you do a "2" theme? Have "2" shaped cake, Get balloons with 2 on them, get that table confetti with 2s sprinkled in.
Honestly, the balloons made allof the difference. They looked so nice, the kids just loved them and everybody got to take one or two home so there was no waste!

Re: 2nd birthday party at home - THEMES???
Thanks guys! My initial idea was a pizza theme (especially since our living room is already accented with red, lol!). I thought that might be cheesy (haha no pun intended) for a 2 year old, but I'm thinking that might be easiest.
I like the chef's hats instead of party hats idea!

Re: 2nd birthday party at home - THEMES???
I once did a "P" party, and it wasn't even a birthday party.
We served pizza, pretzels, pie, potato chips, piles of candy, a platter of cheese, Pepsi, pop, pot of coffee and Pinot Grigio and Pale Ale for the adults.
We served them on purple, plastic plates.
I made signs and put them all over including the names of things I already listed and things around the house like paint, pull open, party!
On my invites I asked people wear something that had P in it, like polka dots, pin stripes, pattern, pink, purple, plaid, purse, pants, pastel, ponytail, pigtails, polo shirt, pocket. Then when guest arrived I gave them a sign to wear.
I also made some descriptive (for lack of a better word) signs for people to wear including Poppa, pretty, playful, punk, picky, polite, professional, personable, preppy, prince, princess, perky, party planner (I wore that one), pleasant, positive, precious, perfect, and pure.
People had tons of fun exchanging or labeling other all night. It was a very unique and fun party.
Here are some pictures from my Kodak Gallery if you'd like to see. Kodak

Thanks everyone, I think we're going to go with the pizza theme; red checkered table cloth, chefs hats for the kids, going to try to get a chef's coat for DS with his name embroidered on it! Pizza themed invitation. Simple, but I think it will be cute and different.
