Would you be frustrated if you didn't want to know the sex...?

So last night the technican asked us if we were finding out the sex of the baby at the 20 week sono. We both said no, we wanted it to be a surprise.

Then the technician proceeds to take a measurement of the femur bone of the baby but has the butt picture on the screen.

Now, I know what isn't supposed to be there for a girl, or is supposed to be there for a boy.

Would you be frustrated if the technican showed this shot, and you now have an idea of what you are having?

I am frustrated bc I now know what I am having (at least 95% sure) and my husband does not-I haven't even told him what I know.Chat Icon

I wanted to add, I am happy either way, but I did want it to be a surprise at the birth.

Re: Would you be frustrated if you didn't want to know the sex...?

I have had 2 kids and I will tell you that I may have seen a MILLION things, but I could never tell you for sure. I wouldn't know a penis from a leg or a spine or a finger!

If you felt that uncomfortable then you should have asked the tech to move the monitor away. I'm sure she was trying to do her job and get the anatomy measurements of the baby and didn't mean to do any harm by it. Chat Icon

I know she was doing her job, I just didn't expect that view to come up. Just a little warning would have helped. Chat Icon

Yes, I would be annoyed, she could have warned you. Now try to forget what you saw, esp. as others have said, you may have thought you saw something (or thought you didn't see something Chat Icon ) and could be wrong.

Oh man. I would be REALLY disappointed. That stinks especially since you TOLD him/her. Ugh.

I agree with the previous poster though... maybe it was something else that you think you "saw"? I think you are still gonna be surprised because you don't know "for sure." HOW EXCITING JANINE!!!!!!!! Chat Icon

BTW - I wouldnt tell your DH that you think you may know what you are having. You may be 95% sure... but there is still that 5% that you may have seen something else!!! Chat Icon

I will not tell DH what I think the baby is. It is, after all still 50/50.

At the 20 week, I am going to MAKE SURE they tell us to look away. Chat Icon

but the cord could have been in the way...you thinking it is a boy (because you saw the cord) when the cord could have been covering up the 3 lines meaning girl.

Make sure the tech knows at your 20 week sono!! Chat Icon

You never know. With my second, I KNEW exactly what a little girl looked like since my first was a girl, and I had an idea of what a boy should look like. I didn't see anything in between the legs whatsoever, and I thought I saw the labia. So when the technician said, oh definitely BOY, I was shocked!

Yea, I agree that you never know for sure, and when you finally do find out, you won't care what you saw at 15 weeks. Chat Icon

That's how I felt when my doctor slipped during my 1st pg and said "he", and quickly covered herself up. I still felt like it could go either way. Then when we officially found out, when DH kept nagging me that he NEEDED to know, I didn't care about the slip, but I remembered it. Chat Icon

Re: Would you be frustrated if you didn't want to know the sex...?

15 weeks is a little early for even a tech to tell the sex. I have heard so many stories about people being told one thing and out came another! Chat Icon

SO I think the element of surprize is still in placeChat Icon

See, I would have to tell DH if I thought I knew-I couldn't keep that quiet. But-like everyone else said, you may think you know but these folks are highly trained specialists-I don't think a lay person good read those pictures. Sometime, even they get it wrong and they know what to look for! I did not know what the heck we were looking at until they circled it and wrote "girl" on the picture.

Re: Would you be frustrated if you didn't want to know the sex...?

I thought I saw boy parts at my last sono and didn't tell anyone, even if you think you saw something you might not be right, I would just tell the sono girl next time that you don't want to know the sex and if she goes down by the leg area to let you know!

Re: Would you be frustrated if you didn't want to know the sex...?

In a word YES!! This happened to me, although much worse. The sono tech put my amnio results on the Level II report so I *knew* beyond any shadow of a doubt what we were having.

That said, DH didn't know and I kept my mouth shut for 19 weeks. The moment my OB announced "it's a girl" was still very special b/c I got to see DH's reaction to the news.
