Decisions...
SO my company announced that they will be doing "workforce reductions" which in english means layoffs.
They are going to be offering voluntary separation packages for people who are willing to leave.
With my tenure at the company, I would get paid for 5 months. DS is 4 and a half months and I just went back to work about a month and a half ago.
Am I crazy that I am considering this? I would absolutely love to get to spend 5 more months at home with DS. I've also been thinking of looking for another position in my company that gave me more stable hours, so if I left I could try to find something that better suited having DS.
I guess I am scared of the unknown. Could I find another job in 5 months that would pay me around the same plus give me more stability that I am looking for.
Would you consider a separation package?

What about benefits? Would you keep all your benfets as well?

I would keep all my benefits for the 5 months, then my DH works for the same company and he could just switch everything over to his name.

Re: Decisions...
A five month "vacation"? I'd take it.
ETS: and I would probably get a P/T job and bank it

What if your DH gets laid off since he is at the same company? I would wait and see what happens to him...Worst case you take it, then DH gets laid off.

Re: Decisions...
Just watch out on the actual $#. I got a severance from an old job for 3 months- but it came in one lump check, and I was taxed insanely. It no where near equalled what I would have brought home in 3 months of pay checks.

Good question. If he gets laid off due to the reduction in force, he would also get a package. And he has been there longer than I have... he would probably get paid for 28 weeks... close to 7 months. Then we could both look for new jobs!

So the package is offered to those who opt out and those who get canned? Difference is, you are waiving your right to collect unemployment is you opt for the package. If they lay you off, you get the package plus unemployment. That's something to think about if you think you may be on the chopping block.

I would ask about this and see how DH feels also since there is a chance he would get offered the same thing.
Good Luck with whatever you do, I dont know what I would do
