Ok..I admit I got a little ridiculous this year and bought a 20lb Butterball turkey. We only paid $17.00 for it...so why not.

There are only going to be 8 of us..

Re: How big of a turkey do you normally buy when cooking Thanksgiving dinner?

DW has two 12lbs birds. They defrost faster, cook faster, have 4 legs instead of 2. We don't do the presentation of the whole bird, so we don't need a huge single bird on the table. I cut the birds in the kitchen, and just bring out the plates of meat.

Plus, with two birds, if you do want a presentation, you can have one bird on the table, while everyone is eating the other bird, then just take the 2nd bird in the kitchen to carve after the 1st one is done.
