2012 Bump ~West Orange *area*, NJ Folks...

Looks like a good middle ground between my mom and my sister.

There was a zoo there. Anything else, INCLUDING RESTAURANTS in the area?

We are looking for Mother's Day weekend. 18 month old and 3 y/o.

TIA!

Surrounding areas good too.

ETA: Going back this year - any other/new/indoor suggestions?

The turtleback zoo is what you are talking about. We love it there...just went yesterday! It's small...you can do the whole thing in less than 2 hours.

I live less than 5 minutes from there. What kind of place are you looking for? There aren't many places in that exact area, but alot of options within a 10 minute drive.

There;s nice parks - Verona Park or Taylor Park in Millburn. Both have playgrounds. Verona has paddle boats. There's a place called Kid Village in Kenilworth which has open play all the time for kids. There are great restaurants in the area - what kind of food?

The Livingston mall is pretty close to West Orange, it's not big, but it has Macy's, Sears, B&N, Old Navy. I am more familiar with Maplewood, South Orange as far as restaurants so I can't really recommend a place in West Orange. There is Arturos in Maplewood and the Village Trattoria in Maplewood, but I am not sure if that is too far for you. HTH!

There's Calabria in Livingston which is good- they have a pizza type side and a fancier side. In Millburn are a few good pizza places too. L'Estrada is one...

For brunch in Westfield is an AWESOME place called Turning Pointe. I'm sure it will be packed but amazing food - a little further than you wanted to go though.

Short Hills Mall is close by. There are a few restaurants there as well. I also agree with the above posters about the local places to eat as well.

We can go a few miles out side of West Orange, we aren't going to limit ourself to one town if a town 15-30 minutes away has so more to offer.

So, if you thought you were limited you're not so keep the ideas coming please.

TIA!!!

i was gonna say this, too... short hills mall is a fun mall to walk around! its all upscale stores, and its fun to dream! LOL you would have to check if its opened on mother's day, though.
in the mall, theres a california pizza kitchen, which might be good for you guys...

No it's not. I live 10 minutes from there and have been on a Sunday. I think it just opens later (like 11 or 12)

My DD can spend hours there throwing pennies in the fountain. It's one of my rainy day places to go

Also in Monclair which is not that far either, there are a number of family friendly places to eat on and around Church St just off of Bloomfield Ave. Although with it being Mothers Day it might be a long wait for tables without a reservation. We really like Raymonds in Montclair but it's always crazy busy

Looks like since the zoo worked out so well last year, we are going to try it again.

Can anyone recomend a back up plan if it rains - any children's museum or indoor activities?

Imagine That in Florham Park is a kid's museum and not far. Pump it Up is in Randolph and they just opened a new place right by me in Springfield called Screaming Parties - they have open play but not sure when.
