20 Week sonogram Question
Hello!
I had my anatomy scan today. We are not planning on finding out the sex.
Is it possible to see things like ovaies during this sonogram?
DH claims he saw 2 round things far apart and swears they are ovaries....
I want to be suprised, but this is now driving me crazy!
ETA: the sono tech did not do a close-up between the legs since we are trying to hold out for the surprise

Re: 20 Week sonogram Question
I'm sure its possible but they woudl be very very small and you would really need a trained eye to see them...........
I wouldn't count on having seen "ovaries" quite yet....... They could be the testicles that haven't descended yet as well!!!!
Still a secret in my eyes!!

Re: 20 Week sonogram Question
99% chance those 2 things were kidneys
they don't tell gender by seeing small ovaries... it's dependent upon larger external genitalia structures that early on in the game.... I'm not even sure if the ovaries really developed at that point At any rate, even adult ovaries are the size of an almond, so you can only imagine how tiny they would be at a levelII.
don't worry, your suprise is still intact! I do neuroimaging for a living (so I'm quite used to staring at fuzzy black and white images of the brain), and even I had difficulty figuring out a few of the abdominal structures she was measuring.
(I DID see the brief flash of parts when the tech did though! I was rather proud I was at least at that proficiency level....)

Re: 20 Week sonogram Question
could the 2 circles be skeletal (near the Pelvis?) I know they also measure inside of the brain that appeared to have circles.

there are empty chambers in the brain (called ventricles).... those are the dark spots you see in there... they're basically just pools of cerebrospinal fluid.
that was the first thing I saw of Scones.... his lateral ventricles... what a proud neuroscience mom I was to see those structures already there!

Re: 20 Week sonogram Question
I actually told him maybe they were skeletal....
I also thought it might be the testicles like a pp said since they have not descended yet....
Can testicles be seen if they have not yet descended? Can they be seen internally?
I assume internally they would be tiny like the ovaries?

They should be able to see the testicles and ovaries....make sure everythign is ok and they are probably comprable in size at this point..............
I really could have a been a number of things as PP have noted.........

Are the testicles and ovaries in the same location before they get into their final position?
