2 Year old CIO
DD has always been a fairly good sleeper. We did CIO with her at about 7 or 8 months and that was it. Now at two nighttime has become impossible most nights. I really can't take it anymore, this has been going on for a few months now. I tried changing her bedtime, adjusting her nap, not letting her nap, comforting her, talking to her and basically everything else I could think of. She is absolutely exhausted but will not sleep. Can you do CIO with a two year old? I feel like it is cruel because she can usually communicate so well with me at this point.

Yes i think you can do CIO with a 2 year old and no i don't think it's cruel.
When jacen fights bedtime or naptime, i go in... lay him back down in the crib, put my hand on his stomach, tell him it's night night time, mommy loves him and that i'll see him in the morning. Then i walk out.
Honestly it sounds like she's so overtired, she's fighting everything.
Will she lay in bed with you at all? what if you stand over her crib with your hand on her stomach (that sometimes works for jacen)?

Re: 2 Year old CIO
I haven't had to do it for nighttime. But we have done CIO for nap time numerous times, unfortunately. Ryan is almost 2.
Is she still in a crib? If she is I say it should be no big deal to do CIO. I think a bed may be harder if she gets in and out by herself.

Re: 2 Year old CIO
We did CIO when DD was a year and it worked wonders.
DD started having sleeping issues again at around 2.5 and I couldn't do it. Now, she's talking in full sentences, asking for water, saying she's hungry calling for mommy, daddy even grandma (800 miles away kid) to save her.
What worked better was setting the PNP up in her room and telling her if she doesn't sleep like a big girl she'll have to sleep in the PNP because that is where babies sleep. She slept in there 1 night and was much betterp-however we still have issues once in a while

DD is doing the same thing and jumping in her crib. Her speech is fantastic and that is why I feel so bad doing it.
She was sleeping in a bed for a bit but I put her back in the crib because she was acting up so much.
She is definitely overtired as someone else suggested but this is only after over an hour of trying to get her to sleep.
She will not sleep if we are in the room. I guess I will try a modified version of CIO and see how it works.

Re: 2 Year old CIO
My son fights sleep...Ugh. I let him cry. It usually only lasts 5-10 minutes. Then he will be great for a week/month, and then start crying again.

Re: 2 Year old CIO
ugh, it is so much harder when they can call for you
miki spends an hour, at least, after I put her into bed calling me in there, getting out of bed, asking for water, asking for food, etc
anything to get out of going to bed.....

Re: 2 Year old CIO
This was happening to my friend and I suggested maybe it was a sign he was ready for a big boy bed...and sure enough...she tried it...and he slept through the night again...I hate to say it, he might not like the crib anymore!
Just a suggestion! ?!?!?!

Re: 2 Year old CIO
I have the same problem...Bedtime is a nightmare...but i just don't have it in me to let him CIO, as u said becuase they are older are are talking now and understand so much more. He will literally cry out my name non-stop, and i just can't leave him like that. I am a sucker, i know.... Usually we lie in my bed and i keep telling him "go to sleep"..eventually he does, but it takes a while. Hopefully, this too, is just a phase.

oh, my dd has been in a big girl bed for over a year and she just recently (when I say recent, I mean the past maybe 6 months or so) she has been a nightmare
I think, for miki, it has to do with the new baby
