2 year old and naps - please come in

Does your 2 year old nap? For how long? What time is their bedtime?

My DD who turns 2 in a few weeks - has been refusing to nap and refuses to go to sleep at night - im guessing because she is so overtired??

Does your child do well without a nap? When DD doesn't nap she doesn't eat well and is super cranky and gets up during the night several times.

She was such an easy going baby - until a month or so ago - she would sleep on her own without a problem and would nap willingly. NOT anymore. Ive been making her CIO and this poor child is not giving in - i don't know what else to do.

Any insight? I thought 2 years old was to easy to give up naps??! Thanks again

My son is just shy of 2 and 1/2...he doesnt nap anymore....He sometimes fights sleep at night but is usually now on no naps in bed asleep by 8:30pm.

Sometimes he gets tired and cranky around Dinner time, but if he naps, he doesnt go to bed till 10-11pm and we just cannot have that so no more naps.

mine still naps. But when he turned two I noticed that they're not as "scheduled" as they used to be and don't last as long. If I miss the windown of opportunity or if he sleeps for even 10 minutes in the car and wakes up than that was it for the day.

His bedtime is about 8:30 and he wakes between 6:30 and 7:30.

DD is 3 - but her schedule has not changed much since she was 2. At 2 , she napped from 1-4 or so and bedtime was 7:30. If she didnt nap, she was a mess ans wouldnt sleep well that night either. Now, at 3, she naps a little later - closer to 2:00, and naps til 4iish. Bedtime is only 15 min later, 745. She can make it a day here or there without a nap and isnt a total wreck, but fact is, she still needs naps most days.

yikes....i am shaking in my socks thinking of DD giving up naps!
anyway, she is almost 2.5 and will nap from about 1pm to 3/4pm
don't give up on the naps if you can keep trying. i think that at 2 they truly need naps. my DD would be a horrific mess w/o hers for sure. just be insistent and consistent. even if she just has some quiet time in her crib/bed.
good luck!Chat Icon

Re: 2 year old and naps - please come in

We are rin nap hell in my house.

DD almost refuses to nap anymore. Today she slept almost an hour and it was the longest time she'd slept in about 3 weeks.

She fights naps every day. Will fall asleep in the car, but will wake up if you put her in the crib.

Sleeps ok at night, but needs her naps otherwise is ready for bed by 5.

I keep telling myself she is just going through a phase and she will get over it.

That's the best advice I have, sorry.

this is my DD too (she'll be 2 in two days)! two days in a row now, 15 minute nap in the car, and she won't nap for the rest of the day. Tonight she was out cold before 7. She was suprisingly pleasant all day, even without the nap, so I have a bad feeling they are on their way out Chat Icon .

she will sleep a good 13-14 hours at night though when she doesn't nap during the day.

Re: 2 year old and naps - please come in

My DS is 25 months. He hardly ever naps anymore. Hasn't napped in almost 2 wks. This started b/f he turned two and, at first it seemed like he needed the naps but still wouldn't take them. Now he takes no nap most days and still has more energy right up to when he goes to bed than you can imagine. I have no idea where he gets all this energy from. On a good night he sleeps 12 hrs straight. On a bad night as little as 9 hrs. On average - 10.5-11 hrs. And, yet, he never seems tired. Me on the other hand, 28 wks pg I am desperately hoping the nap is not gone forever - I still try everyday!Chat Icon

2 1/2 dd naps probally three days a week. I think its so weird that on the days that she has school in the morning, she doesnt nap. i would think it would be the opposite.

DD is almost 3 but since she dropped to 1 nap (at 17 months) she always goes in the crib at 1. She doesn't fall asleep until close to 2 and naps until about 3 - 3:30. She goes into her crib at about 8pm, falls asleep between 8:30 and 9 and wakes at about 7am.

Jack is 17 months and sleeps 8 - 7:30 and naps 1 - 3 - 3:30.

Almost 2.5 and naps at lunch time for 2 hours. The later he takes a nap the longer the nap will be.

Maybe a phase or could it be teething? My son barely naps when he teethes.

My 2 yr old just started napping for 1.5-2 hrs in teh last month or so and he is almost 27 mos. He wakes up 730ish, naps 12-130/2 and goes to bed at 9pm. When he teethes (which was basically 1yr-2yrs), he is up a lot at night, up earlier like 630 and barely naps 1hr 15mins is tops when I am lucky!!! He is starting to go back to the bad sleeping this week...I think I am starting my 2 yr molars!

DD is 27 months & naps from 2-4 or 1-330. She then goes to bed between 745-8pm.

If we're out & she misses her nap she's a cranky bear & just not herself. She'll be exhausted by dinner time.

Re: 2 year old and naps - please come in

My son is 25 months and was doing a nap like 4x a week since he turned 2 (before that he napped every day pretty much), and sleeping for 3 hours, sometimes longer. The other days of the week he would just fight me and scream his head off in the crib. So I figured him not going down for a nap at all was soon to come, however, we just converted his crib to the bed and I don't have the patience to make him nap, he just keeps getting up out of the bed. Plus, if I did get him to nap he just doesn't fall asleep at a decent hr at night (like, he'd go in at 8:30 and be up and down out of the bed until almost 10pm). I've been skipping the nap now alltogether and putting him down at 7:30ish at night. Hes not really cranky w/o his nap, he used to be when he was younger but now he can handle no nap.

He does fall asleep in the car now or even in the stroller...and in that case I transfer him to his bed and he usually naps then.

My 2 year old goes down around 2:30 every day, for about 2-3 hours (most often closer to 2 hrs). She goes to bed around 8:30/9.

Re: 2 year old and naps - please come in

DS is almost 2 1/2. His bedtime is between 7:30 and 8pm. He wakes between 7-7:30am. He goes to daycare and more often than not naps an average of 1 1/2 to 2 hrs. Most weekends, he doesn't nap (which is rough).

As a PP said, if we miss the window of nap opportunity on weekends, it's gone. As well, if he naps, even if only for 30 min, in the car and wakes, game over.

Re: 2 year old and naps - please come in

Ds is 22 months and he suddenly is fighting going to sleep! 2 weeks ago we would read books and he would willingly go in his crib lay day and fall asleep.

Now whether its nap time or bedtime he cries, gets all upset, tosses and turns alot etc....

Due to this we are all over the place with sleeping. Some days I dont have the energy to try to get him down, some days he sleeps 45 minutes, other days 2 hours. Bedtime is generally between 8:30 and 9pm (although the other night it took him 1 hour to fall sleep) and he wakes around 7:30 or 8.

DS can go without a nap without much crankiness. We will generally be good until 7:30is and then he starts getting a little crazy!

Re: 2 year old and naps - please come in

My DS is almost 25 months and still takes a 2 hr nap. The time is dependent on what time he gets up, but for the most part, the nap is between 11 and 1. He will then go to bed @ 8:30.

With no nap, he is horrible! Won't eat, and it seriously cranky!!! Being 8 months PG, I LOVE NAP TIME!!! I'm not ready for him not to nap!
