2 month appt- weight concern?
DS had his two month check-up today. He did not like getting the shots at all- poor little guy! They gave him some Tylenol afterwards and told me to give him some every 4-6 hours for any discomfort.
He weights 13 lb 3 oz and the doc said that this is the 90th percentile, and to watch out that he is not overfed. he eats about 32-36 oz a day now. But when I try to feed him less, he freaks out!!
Anybody else have babies with big appetites out there? Is there anything I should be doing differently?

I wouldn't worry about it. You know your baby. If he is eating and not spitting it up (meaning he's not being overfed), then I wouldn't worry about it.

Maybe ask your ped. about starting cereal early since he's really hungry?

ITA!
My youngest was 13lbs at 2 month, 15lbs at 4 month and 18 lbs at 6 months.
My PEd said her growth was fantastic and keep doing what i'm doing.
I wouldn't worry, their weight gain levels off around 9 months old when tehy get too busy to eat and start to become more mobile.
ETA: Between 2-6 months before solids she was drinking 34-39 ounces a day, my doc said that was a okay :)

Re: 2 month appt- weight concern?
Dont worry. DS was 16lbs 95 percentile at 10 weeks (he was also 95%tile for height as well). And he was eating about 40oz per day. My dr said she generally doenst recommend more than 35oz but if he isnt uncomforable or having any issues its not a big deal.
She recommended cutting back his feedings because he spits up a lot but I told her I tried that and it had no effect on his spitting up. DS LOVES to eat. but he is happy and healthy so I am not worried, neither was my ped.

Thanks- my DH is worried that he will be overweight- and everyone who sees him always comments that "He is huge". He rarely spits up, and if so- it is just about a teaspoonful if that. The ped said he could still be overfed if he doesn't spit up- he could be bloated, umcomfortable, etc. I just worry because DH is always like "feed him" whenever he cries, and I worry that he is overfed. But I always space the feedings out at least 3 hours. The ped said no cereal yet- because that will just add extra calories and not fill him up any faster.

Re: 2 month appt- weight concern?
I'm sorry your little guy didn't like his shots! Mine didn't like them either at 2 months, but when we got 2 more shots at 3 months, he was fine, barely cried and even smiled at the doctor. So the next time might be better!
I can't help with weight--mine has the opposite issue. He's on the low side for his age, though his doctor thinks he's fine. I know I can't force my boy to eat more than he wants to eat, so I'm sure you can't reduce his feedings easily either. He sounds like he's not too high to me though. Some babies gain a lot early, then lose it later.
Maybe try reducing his food ever so slightly, like half an ounce a feeding and don't worry too much!

Re: 2 month appt- weight concern?
I dont believe that you can ever over feed a baby!!!! As long as he's not throwing up the whole bottle (spitting up is fine!) its ok...Caden grew 2 inches and gained almost 4lbs from his 1 month to 2 month appointment. (he was 10lbs 9oz 22 inches at 1 month and 14lbs 7oz 24 inches at his 2 month appointment) Our pediatrician said he is obviously a good eater and that there was nothing to be concerned with. (although I think he did break the record for their office in 1 month weight gain.)

We worry about the same thing But i can say my oldest was a bit chunky before 9 months old too, she was 2lbs behind her sister at those milestones, and now is the skinniest minnie, i can see her ribs when she breathes in, 18 month pants around the waist are still loose-she's 22.5 months old. Her weight gain def slowed tremendously after 9 months old.
See my PEd isn't an alarmist and i love that about him, if you aren't saying or telling your doc that he is gassy, irritable, spitting up, I just think there's no reason to alarm you like that. He's just a big eater and he's happy with it.
My youngest was downing 1.5-2ounces in the hospital and was screaming if we only gave her the 1/2 ounce to an ounce the nurses we're yelling at us to give her. I can't tell you how mnay times the nurses came in and yelled at us for overfeeding her, I"M NOT GOING TO LET MY KID STARVE and scream for food. No way!
My PEd doesn't believe in Solids AT ALL before 6 months and said the same as yours about cereal when i asked about her eating so many ounces.
ETA: Always trust your mommy gut-mommy gut is that ringing, that feeling in the pit of your stomach or the voice in teh back of your head. If you think he's fine, he's fine.

Re: 2 month appt- weight concern?
i wouldn't worry too much about it. DS is a big baby too, always above 95th percentile. At that age he was probably around 30-35 ounces. I can't remember. The doc didn't want to top 40 ounces and I remember him being close. However, at 3 months he started to sleep more (10-12 hours stretches) and he dropped down to like 30 ounces. How is your little one sleeping? Then at 4 months we started cereal.

He is starting to sleep better this week (usually 6 hour stretch after his last nighttime bottle). He usually takes a 2-3 hour nap after his morning feeding too. that is a good point- perhaps he will eat less when he starts to sleep more.

yeah, as he starts going longer you'll find that you're going to probably cut out a bottle completely.
People comment on how big my son is ALL THE TIME!!! Sometimes it bothers me and sometimes it doesn't. Depends on the context. I've expressed concerns of him being overweight with the ped. and he's reassured me that as they start moving around more they will start to gain weight slower. But at two months you have to feed him if they're hungry and like the other great advice you got above, he would spit up if he was taking too much. You're doing exactly what you should be doing!!!

Re: 2 month appt- weight concern?
DD has been in 90th percentile for height and weight since he beginning and still is at 6 months. I'm 5'8" DH is 6'4" - so we figure it's to be expected.

Re: 2 month appt- weight concern?
This was DS. Your DS is drinking too much formula...after a certain amount it is not healthy. At 2 1/2 months my ped. had me start adding a tiny bit of cereal to his bottles and cutting them back from 5 - 8 oz. bottles to 6 oz. bottles.
ETA: DS is going to be a yr. old and is still a BIG eater. I am 5'6" and DH is 6'4" so we know he is going to be big.

Re: 2 month appt- weight concern?
My DD weighed 15 lbs and 9.6 ozs at 2 months. Her doctor asked "does she cry for thr food or do you just feed her for no reason?" I told him she cries for it so he was fine with her weight.

So you still fed him 5 times a day- but cut it from 8 oz to 6 oz? My DS is currently eating 5.5 oz 6 times a day. Did the cereal help to fill him up?

It worked miracles. He started to get reflux and very uncomfortable b/c of all the formula he was drinking. He drank an 8 oz. bottle every 3 hrs. So the dr. had me cut back the bottle to 5-6 oz. (he still had a bottle every 3 - 4 hrs) but add very little cereal and he drank his bottles with no problem and slept better b/c he felt full and his stomach was no longer bothering him from all the milk.
ETA: I think I put in 1/2 - 1 tsp. Not much but it helped. If you add cereal, you have to get the fast nipple b/c the hole is bigger. Some people use the Y nipples but they didnt work for me. I still had to make the whole a tiny bit bigger so he didnt have to suck so hard. I would add the cereal and than the milk and shake the bottle good.
ETA again: DS was already drinking 3-4 oz. by the time he was 2 weeks old He just loved to eat and still does. I think he eats more than most toddlers. He's not fat at all and is very tall for his age so the ped. is not concerned.
I would def. add a little cereal to his bottle and see what happens. He may be crying alot not b/c he's hungry but also b/c he may be uncomfortable or be getting a little reflux like DS did from the milk. I think they aren't supposed to drink more than 30 oz. day or around there.

I use Dr Brown's bottles. Not sure which nipple I would use. How did you make the hole bigger? My ped said today that he didn't want me adding cereal, but I can ask him again if this keeps up. Did you use rice cereal?

That happened to me too. They had those individual 4 oz. similac bottles and I fed him and he drank 2 1/2 oz. the 2nd day in the hospital. The nurse went crazy that I can't feed him that much. I was like well he ate and didnt throw up and if he's hungry I am not going to starve him. And guess what...he's fine!
