2 hour school trip to Jersey at 36 weeks pregnant

My class is taking a trip to New Jersey (about 2 hours away...not including traffic, which is of course when we are returning!!!) when I am 36 weeks pregnant. I thought nothing of it, until my mom asked if my dr would allow it.

This is my 4th pregnancy, I delivered my last 2 at 38 weeks. I will ask my dr, but was anyone told that they should not travel around 36 weeks?

Thanks!

I made a 2 hour drive to jersey at 36+ plus weeks. I never even thought to ask the doctor. Unless you're going somewhere in the middle of nowhere, I'd think its ok, there's probably 100 hospitals along the way, just incase...

I bet you give birth the day after. Sounds like a long day and I'm not sure I'd be up for it.

It wouldn't be fair to the kids if they had to make a stop on the way home - I'd pass this year if you an option. If not, could you take your own car?

This is funny because I am a teacher too and I went on a trip to Manhattan when I was about 36 weeks pregnant! We went to the Museum of Natural History and I was exhausted but it wasn't so bad.

I wouldn't. Will you be on an uncomfortable school bus? Best case scenario, it will be a very long and uncomfortable day. Worst case, you're going to be out of state in an unfamiliar hospital with a random doctor and your friends and family would have to travel all the way to jersey to see you and baby and then you have to travel all the way home with a newborn. I would bypass it just in case. Good luck!

Re: 2 hour school trip to Jersey at 36 weeks pregnant

I'm a teacher at 36 weeks and we just went on a field trip on a yellow school bus and hour 1/2 away from my school. I asked my dr. and he said he saw no problem... luckily it was not longer than my regular work day but I was def sore the next day.

You have to use your best judgement for how you feel- not what may happen

I was commuting to the city and got a note that after 36 weeks I should no longer travel and instead work from our LI location. I ended up having my baby at 36 weeks and 2 days!

So, no, I wouldn't take a 2 plus hour trip at that point.

I personally would pass and I am not one to stay stop things just bc you are pregnant but I wouldn't wantt o deliver outside my local area. My dr didn't want me going far after 34/35 weeks as I delivered all my babies early (37 and 38 weekks) and with all pretty much had false labor in the 32-33 week range. I know with my 3rd the head was there and I as so dilated she said this baby will fall out and get to the hospital with no delays...she was like you don't want to be on belt pkwy traffic - lol.

I would be surprised if your OB was okay with it. Mine wouldn't let me go to the Bronx Zoo! Between the actual bumpy bus ride, and all the walking, plus trying to deal with the kids - no thanks!

Actually... mine gave me a 2 hour away limit at about 35 weeks & wanted me to stop working (20 minutes away) at 38 weeks. I did deliver at 39 weeks with both kids.

Re: 2 hour school trip to Jersey at 36 weeks pregnant

I honestly never thought tiwce about any of this stuff w/ either pregnancy - If there was something I had to or wanted to do - I just did it .....I never thought about how long I'd be in the car or how far I'd be from my hospital .....I commuted to the city and walked across town every day til the very end ......

If you're comfortable doing it that go -

Are you going to be comfortable sitting on a bus for that long?

Re: 2 hour school trip to Jersey at 36 weeks pregnant

I did a weekend trip to Jersey at 37 weeks which was a 2+hour trip. I asked the Dr and he said if I feel up to going, then I can go but the second I start feeling something to start heading home. My situation was a little different since I was showing signs of pre-e at the time.

If I were you, I dont know if I would go because if you start feeling uncomfortable or start feeling labor coming on, you cant just hop in the car and head home. I guess it would really be up to you and how you are feeling.
