1st walking shoes

I just picked up my DS first walking shoes. We went to stride rite. I'm curious; Do they often give you a half size bigger than what is measured? They mentioned it takes about 3/4 mths for their feet to grow. So, to me that makes me worried being bigger. Won't that make it harder for him to grip? I may go back and see how the 'right' size fits. I don't want it tight but I don't want it loose. Maybe there isn't a happy median.

What is your 1st shoe experience?

Hello - they've always measured my DC as 1/2 size bigger each time, including the first pairs of shoes both wore. They walked fine in them.

I'd keep the bigger size. You don't want to be one growth spurt away from them being too small. I don't think it's unusual for LOs to need a size (or 2 or 3) bigger than we expect.

Thanks so much ladies for your replies! My husband and my mother both agreed. I figured I'd ask around what's typical since this is new. I will keep the bigger size. It was so cute getting his first shoes:)

I took so many pics of my DS in his first walking shoes, so I know what you're feeling. They always size up because when the child stands up, their foot slides forward a little. This way their toes aren't right up against the front of the shoe.

Re: 1st walking shoes

I just went to stride rite tonight and the girl said the same exact thing. DD measured at a 2 1/2 and they gave us a size 3. The girl said it's better to have some room because their feet grow so fast and there should be a little extra room in the shoes anyway. There's also an insert in the show that shows you when it's time to get a bigger size.

Thank you. I didn't notice an insert. I will have to check that out.
