1st time Gardener!
Okay, I have no idea what to buy or when to plant or how to plant flowers! I just want something to fill in and look nice and full with something that will last all summer and stay pretty looking. Am I looking for something that doesnt exist? I'll take any suggestions about anything bc as you can see I'm clueless!
The main reason for my sudden gardening is my DS's christening is going to be in the backyard at the end of July so I just need the yard to look presentable and colorful! TIA!!

Re: 1st time Gardener!
if you haven't already, xpost this to the Home board.
can you post a picture of your yard as it currently is, and identify the conditions of the area in which you want to plant? i.e., does it get full sun, partial sun, full shade?; is it against a fence, or the house, or around a patio? do you want low maintenance ground cover or something that requires a bit more effort?
nm...just got moved to Home!

Re: 1st time Gardener!
Yeah they moved it for me! lol I've only ever posted on the pregnancy and parenting board so I didnt know where to post this!
Anyway, in the front I have full sun exposure, against the house, on either side of the front door and railing.
The backyard is 2 spots, against the side of the garage and against the back of the house, (here maybe just low flowers bc people have to walk past it back and forth). There is full sun exposure back there also.
All these spots are already framed here with wood that just screams "plant flowers here!". I just never had a chance or a reason to do it.

Re: 1st time Gardener!
Are you looking for perennials or annuals?
For shade inpatients are great colorful annuals, petunias are great sun annuals.
Most of my gardens are perennials and have butterfly attracting plants like purple saliva, cone flower, phlox, Black-Eyed Susans, gaillardia and daises.
The Gaillardias are the longest lasting, they bloom through the fall and are very hardy.
