1st time dance recital child..

so this is my DD (3 yo)'s first dance recital. She actually knows her routine and has practiced at home. However, when she had her rehearsal on Saturday on the actual stage she froze. She just stood there and didn't move. She didn't cry but just looked around like, where am I? All the other kids her age danced except maybe one other. So how should I prepare her for her actual recital in 3 weeks. Any tips from moms who have been there? Thanks!!

1st time dance recital child..

From what I hear, it's quite normal for them to freeze on stage but apparently they stand there and look cute and get all the awwws. Haha. Sorry I don't have any advice. Kids are totally unpredictable at this age. My dd is in a recital as well (she turns 3 this week) and as long as she doesn't run off stage it'll be a success Chat Icon she knows her routine too and practices at home etc. I'm just happy she made it through the year to be honest!

This is what I am afraid of, my DD first recital is in June and shes 4.5 but shes a nervous child. I only hope she can just stand there and not throw a tantrum lol. Sorry no advice but glad to hear this might/will happen.

Re: 1st time dance recital child..

I'm a dance teacher and can attest that preschoolers can be unpredictable on stage. I've had kids who turn on like a light on stage and perform better then they ever have in class. I've had kids who know the dance backwards and forwards cry and refuse to perform. The only suggestion I can make is to reinforce how fun it is to be up there with her friends. Some kids do better with their mom close by, like in the side of the stage. Some get too needy with their mom around, only you know what will work best for her. Talk to her and feel her out. Try to get her to explain why she froze and do your best to alleviate her fears.

yes I spoke to her and she said she was afraid of being on stage and wanted to perform at the dance studio. I just don't know how to get her to be comfortable for the recital. I guess you are right, it's very unpredicatable. Thanks!
