1st thread of lots of rec and Qs needed for house remodel - Let's talk roof color if you have tan siding
This Fall/Winter/Spring will be the time to remodel.
We decided to do all of it.
We are in Eastern Nassau.
If you have a tan siding, which I prefer, what color roof do you have?
I love to see pic if you could post or FM.

I'm planning on getting tan siding with medium to dark grey roof. White accent pieces (windows, railing, gutters, etc), and black shutters. Neighbor has tan house with white windows, black shutters, but very black roof. My solar panels will be almost entirely black, so from the front of the house, the roof will look black, but there will be shingles over the bay windows and the foyer bump-out. I wanted the grey to add another layer of color between the black shutters, and the grey paving stone walkway we already have.

We are def. doing the white windows and trim. I love the clean looking look of it.
I was thinking grey (which we have now) but was wondering about the black or other colors.

My mom has tan siding, white around the windows, white door and a dark brown roof.

I saw a house with tan siding and a black roof... Next to like 4 other tan houses with whatever color roofs.
It totally stuck out and looked MINT!
I vote black roof.

Certainteed has an on-line color tool that you can play with to "test" out some different color variations.

Pick a house style that is relatively close to yours, then play with siding, shutters (under Paint), and roof. It will give you something to start with at least.

Although our siding color is called "Cottage Grey" it sometimes looks tanish.
Our roof is a Slate Grey, but when you view it ontop of the tanish colored shingles, it looks more blueish, which I hate.  We had to put a new roof on the 1st month we moved in, so we chose a color that went with the current siding (white).  If we do a second story addition (as opposed to moving), I'm hoping DH will let me get a new roof. 
(forgive the "bareness"...we're still working on the house and doing landscaping this fall.) Image Attachment(s):

Black roofs absorb more heat than lighter colored roofs, so your attic (and your house) may be warmer in the summer with a black roof. As long as you have plenty of ventilation, it should be fine, though. I want a dark roof, but we are covering almost the entire thing with solar panels, so it will never get that hot, since the roof is protected from the sun by the panels.

I have a grey roof now and I know about the heat..
