1st IUI - done! ? about ovulation....
I’m new here on this board… DH and I have been trying for a baby since July ’11… so this is our 16th month. I started going to fertility doctor in July.
Had my first IUI this morning, and the nurse told me that I ovulated yesterday. Shouldn’t they have done an IUI yesterday? Is it likely that it will have worked this month?

From the point that your LH surge happens to when the egg is actually released is about 12-24 hrs. Also the egg is viable for 24-48 hours in the tube. It is fine that the iui was today. Your egg will be there waiting when the little guys finish their journey......... Good luck !!!!

Re: 1st IUI - done! ? about ovulation....
Ideally, you want to have an IUI before you O so the sperm are waiting for the egg. But, the egg is viable for about 24 hours after you O so if you have some fast sperm, you're still in it! I'd say you have a chance, it just wasn't ideal timing.
Were you monitored? Did you trigger? It's only your first IUI but you may want to discuss getting the timing more precise next month if this one doesn't take.
Good luck!

Re: 1st IUI - done! ? about ovulation....
good to know i have somewhat of a chance!!
i was monitored... i went in last friday and went in every morning.... sat, sun, monday.... and on monday they told me to come in on wednesday for some reason... so i did not go in on tuesday!!!
im a little ticked off they told me not to come in that day... had i gone in, they would have seen i was about to ovulate i dont understand why they told me to skip a day... when i went in on wednesday my follicle was a 23.5... but monday it was 16.5
I ovulate on my own... but they told me to buy the trigger anyway... they told me that i did not have to use the trigger this month...

Did they confirm ovulation via a sono?
Even if you O on your own, it's a good idea to use the trigger so you can time the IUI better. Again, if you don't get pg this month, I'd express your concerns to your RE and make sure you use the trigger next month.
