1st DOCTOR APPT done! and Question too....
So I had my very first doctor appt today! I was soo looking forward to this so that I can see what's been going on! He wasn't concerned about the cramping AT ALL! So that was good.
We saw a heartbeat and got a picture of the lil blob!! haha!!
One strange thing.... when he put the little marks on the screen and had the computer measure it... it came up to 7w2d instead of 8w1d. Which means we conceived on the 23rd of Nov..... the last time we BD was the 17th. So I'm a bit confused by this. I know it's possible... but it still seems a bit of a stretch for me. My due date is now August 16th instead of the 9th. I tested positive on Dec 7th. Is all this possible? We DEF saw a heartbeat and so far so good..... but I'm concerned about these dates not lining up. I did read that sperm can live inside for up to 7 days.... and for me this would have to be 6 days, which I figured would be unlikely. My last AF started Nov 2nd. I asked if that means I ovulated late and he said yes. I didn't make too much of it until I came home and started figuring out the dates. What do you guys make of this? You all seem to be more of the experts on this stuff than me! I know NADA!! Though i have been reading lately to educate myself better.

Re: 1st DOCTOR APPT done!
So glad to hear that all went well. The dates seem accurate. I am not sure if they consider the day you BD as when you got preggo, or when everything came together and became an embryo. KWIM? I think I have that a little wrong, but I think everyone's dates are always a little bit off. I am sure one of the other ladies will be better about explaining that part to you. LoveyQ is great at that. So excited for you & DH, and glad you guys were able to get your first photo.

OK so it makes more sense if they count when it all came together and made an embryo... because then that would buy me a few days and I can get on board with that a lot more!!
I FM'd loveyq with a link to the post. TY!!!
HAHA I love my first photo! It's like a lil blob!! Can't wait to show the kid that one day and be like, and here you are as a BLOB!! hahahaha!! there was a better shot but then he moved it... you saw lil arms and legs and stuff... but he didn't get that angle back... so a blob it is!!!

Re: 1st DOCTOR APPT done! and Question too....
First, the machines use an algorithm that my OB told me has a 15% rate of error so they're not 100% on target with the measurements themselves. Then, babies do not measure exactly either - rates of growth vary and they are often off by a few days at various times throughout pregnancy- mine has mostly been a few days ahead but also has been a few days behind at times since her growth is not linear. Lastly, sperm can live for awhile - I had heard 5 days, not 7, but even 5 is a long time. Anyway, the point of all this is that when you add all this up, your due date and your conception date are really just estimates and it doesn't sound too off to me given that it's not an exact science - they're probably pretty close even given these things.

Re: 1st DOCTOR APPT done! and Question too....
i have been arguing with my ob from day one about this... the two dates are off by 10 days... dh works overnights and at the time i was working one of his nights that he was off so we slept in the same bed once a week... not really hard to figure out when this child was concieved... so when people ask i just say i am due at the end of january and leave it at that

ITA with this! And I've heard that a lot of women measure behind at their first sonogram. Some women will measure ahead or behind throughout different points of their pregnancy, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Most doctors will go by your LMP, which yes would put you at 8w1d. My doctor went by my first sonogram date. Then at my 20 week appointment she asked me my due date because she didn't see it on my chart (lol!!!) and matched it up with the little wheel chart they have (which goes by LMP).
I've also heard that sperm can only live up to 5 days, so without knowing when you ovulated, it still sounds like you're right in the right timeframe based on your sonogram! Don't worry!

Re: 1st DOCTOR APPT done! and Question too....
The dates never seem to jive exactly as you think. I went by my last period and that was way off. I obviously OV a lot later than most women do in their cycle and when I went to the doctor's I was expecting to be about 6 weeks but was really just over 4....all that matters is that there is a little bean in there!!! Congrats!
