1st Bday Party Question
DH and I are trying to figure out what to do for DD's 1st Bday. While it's still 6 months away, we live in NYC and places get booked up fast!
We can't decide if we do something more geared for adults (but with a child activity area) or more geared for kids. We have many childless friends, so option 1 would be a bigger party. If we do option 2, we'd reduce the invite list to be mostly those with kids, so it'd be significantly smaller.
If you've hosted a 1st bday, what type of celebration did you have? Or, if you've been to 1st bday's, what type do you find most common?
Thanks in advance!

Re: 1st Bday Party Question
We did an adult party for DD's first birthday. We had it at a restaurant. We still invited our friends with kids, but it was not geared toward kids. IMO the first birthday is more for the parents than the kid.

Re: 1st Bday Party Question
Ours was a mix.
We invited our huge family and all our friends. Our family has a ton of kids so even though it was at a restaurant we had entertainment for the kids.
Subsequent parties will be tiny.

Re: 1st Bday Party Question
We did a backyard birthday party, geared toward kids, but also invited family and friends who did not have kids. My vision for my DD's party was a fun, laid back atmosphere with lots of kids running around. We had a bounce house, small ball pit, water table, bubble machine, and craft activity. It was basically everyone hanging out and having fun.

The same. We did this with DS and now will be doing it with DD.

1st Bday Party Question
the first birthday is special and everyone was invited to that one, family and friends with and without kids. i figure any birthday after that will be geared more for the kids and only invite friends with children. we did have kids entertainment at the 1st birthday party thought because there were at least 10 kids that came.

We had DD's first birthday at Trucks n Tiaras & then continued the party back at our house for our guest that couldn't make the first part of the celebration.

1st Bday Party Question
I did mine geared toward kids. I understand my dd wont remember it, but its her bday party not mine. Plus most of my friends have kids or babies and I know they would have a blast. And even though my dd is only 1 she had a blast!!!!! She loved being around other kids. She LOVED that everyone sang to her. It was in the afternoon when shes in the best mood and well rested. I have been to mostly bdays that are geared towards kids and we still have a great time. I get to see my friends and bs. My husband gets to see his and drink a few beers. I have also been to parties where its geared for the adult and to be honest I didn't have such a great time because there wasn't much for my dd to do. The music was WAY TOO LOUD where I had to take my dd out of the room a few times. It was usually at night or late afternoon which can turn into my dd witching hour and she was a mess. Shes at that age and has been at that age where she wants to touch everything and she couldn't because it wasn't that kind of place. It was more annoying and frustrating for my dh and I than anything else. We ended up leaving early. And to be honest most of my friends complained afterwards that the party really wasn't kid friendly and wasn't fun to be at for them either.
I did invite my friends without kids and they still seemed to have a good time cause we were all together bsing. Obvs not the same as being at an adults party but still not horrible. I played adult music just pop hits. And there was beer and wine.

Re: 1st Bday Party Question
we did a mix. i figure all of the other birthdays will be friends only probably, and this birthday is more for us... so i invited my friends with babies and some of her baby friends plus all of our friends without babies and family members old and young... besides her 1st birthday, she will only have a big bat mitzvah and sweet 16 and maybe graduation party. all the rest will be small parties so why not go big for #1!

Re: 1st Bday Party Question
we did close friends and family in a catering hall. (ended up with 50 people)
had music for the 3 kids that were there. (there were more babies that the parents chose NOT to bring)
DS had a great time since he loved to dance at that age. Plus, since there was a dance floor he ran around which made him happy.
i believe we brought one or two ride-ons and some bigger toys for the kids to play with.
his second was a kid party with a bbq so adults without kids still came.
