18 weeks = 5th Month??
I'm confused... How is 18weeks considered the 5th month? I would consider it the fourth month! But the book says 5th. Hmmmm....
This whole week to month baby counting thing is like the new math to me!

You completed 4 full months at week 16 so you are now in your fifth month but not 5 months until 20 weeks. Does that make sense?

YES! Now that you say "completed", it totally does. Thank you!!! I was thinking that 16 weeks started my fourth month (4,8,12,16...), but it completed my fourth month and started my fifth. Gotcha! (I feel a little dumb, now! lol)

Don't feel dumb...it's all in symantics! My DH and MIL were trying to explain how I am in my 5th month when I was 16 1/2 weeks and I thought it was ridiculous and confusing...but after they used the word 'completed' I started to understand....and now every week my MIL will tell me what month I am in and look at my husband like 'we know what that means'...grrrrr

The part that confuses me is whether a month is 4 or 4.5 weeks. It's so temping to say 4 in which case you are 4 months at 16w and 20w is 5 months. However, pregnancy is only 9 months and the 40w takes into account that most months are longer than 28 days.
I think the correct cutoff is:
Month 1: up to 4.5w
Month 2: 4.5 to 9w
Month 3: 9 to 13.5w (with first tri ending at 13w3d)
Month 4: 13.5 to 18w
Month 5: 18 to 22.5w
Month 6: 22.5 to 27w (with second tri ending at 27w)
Month 7: 27 to 31.5 w
Month 8: 31.5 to 36w
Month 9: 36w to 40w
Or something like that...

So applying my list, at 17w3d I am almost done with month 4 and will have "completed" 4 months of pregnancy at 18w which is Wednesday. Then I will be "in my fifth month"
If people ask me now and they are familiar with pregnancy terminology I say I am 17w3d or 17 w pregnant, otherwise I say I'm about 4 months pregnant.

it does get confusing! Im a few days over 18 weeks, I tell people I am 4 1/2 months.
