14 mths old and does not want his diaper changed
He has been a handful lately. Every time I put him down to change his diaper, he starts to whine or cry. He moves his legs up or moves to the left side so he won't even let me take it off. Anyone else's child going through this phase or is it just me?
I should also add, I've tried distracting him and sometimes it works. Most of the times he throws it....sometimes at me. Thank God for soft toys

Re: 14 mths old and does not want his diaper changed
A little before he turned a year, DS went through a phase where he did not want his diaper changed. It was bad--he thrashed, kicked, and if DH was home, we both changed him. It was hard to do it myself.
It helped to give him something to look at, one of his board books or a small truck. If I forgot those things, I gave him whatever I could including the aquaphor jar.
It passed, and resurfaces a bit from time to time. I think they are asserting their independence.

Re: 14 mths old and does not want his diaper changed
My DS is 20 months and has been a monster on the changing table forever. I try to keep a bunch of books and toys he likes on the changing table and hand them to him to play with while I change him. But, sometimes even that doesn't work and we end up on my bed or the floor I hate changing time!

My dd has been doing this for months. I dread diaper changes. When i was pregnant she would kick my stomach soo hard, thought for sure my dd was goign to be born with her big sisters foot imprint on her head.

Re: 14 mths old and does not want his diaper changed
This is when I get stern with DS - its not just the diaper change, its the matter of now it is time to listen and let us have some control over them. I am not a control issue person at all, but when he resists basic everyday things that he never had a problem with, it is because he is trying to gain indepedence and control. I don't let him have it there, and I say in a stern voice - NO! With an angry face. Since I hardly do that, he knows I mean business. I give him opportunities to have control and independence - put his clothes in the dirty laundry, and helping me with other familiar activities.

Kristina does the SAME FLIPPING THING!
I tell her c'mon time for a diaper change, and she walks right over to the changing table, but then as soon as I go to put her up on the table - My God - it starts.... She screams No, crying, kicking.... it's a job and a half....
But then I put her down on the floor after we're done, and it's like nothing ever happened!

Re: 14 mths old and does not want his diaper changed
Oh yes-we get the whole thrashing, screaming, kicking legs and if I give him a toy it gets thrown at me I especially hate poopy diapers because somehow his hands find their way down there and I am left with a double mess!

Re: 14 mths old and does not want his diaper changed
Its a phase. My son and sooo many on here said their kids were the same way. At 23 months ,he is FINE with it again. But it was a logn phase, so look for ways to entertain him

Re: 14 mths old and does not want his diaper changed
DD has been doing this for awhile and shes only 10 months old. I cant stand changing her, it takes forever. And if its a poopie diaper it takes 2 people, one person has to hold her legs up. I cant wait for this phase to be over!

Re: 14 mths old and does not want his diaper changed
Yep, except my DS thinks it's fun to roll over and stand up while I am changing him. He also doesn't do this for daddy or daycare, just mommy is the lucky one. And he is STRONG.
I try to give him something to entertain him, but if that doesn't work, i get tough, tell him NO and he cries until I am done. I have had to put the clean diaper back on him standing up a couple of times.

Re: 14 mths old and does not want his diaper changed
I am sorry that you are all dealing with this....but happy to know that I am not the only one. My DD is such a nut during changing time. She crys, kicks and try's to rollover and crawl away.
It is so frustrating. We are starting to try the Time-Out chair and the only time she seems to have to be put in it is after changing time.

My DS does the same thing. He will completely resist being laid down (he's gonna have some set of ab muscles!!) and will immediately try to roll over or sit up.
It's a constant wrestling match.
Sometimes if I turn on the TV and lay him down after he gets entranced AND hand him a toy, he will be okay, but I make sure that it is fast, fast, fast.
Most of the time I chase him with a diaper and try to put it on him as he crawls away from me.
