Bleeding after internal???

I am 35 1/2 wks. and had a dr. appt. tonight. They did my first internal. I also was due for a pap so she tried to do one. Apparently my cervix is too far back for her to be able to get a good swab right now so she couldnt do it. After the exam, I felt really wet and realized I was bleeding. To me it seemed like a lot, almost like I had my period. I figured maybe she scratched me trying to do the pap. I called the nurse back into the room who got the dr. The dr. said it was normal and that I would probably continue to see spotting for the next day. Well, I am still bleeding and it seems like more than spotting. I had my appt. 3 hours ago. There is blood on my pantliners and when I wipe there is blood (even clots...sorry for TMI). Is this normal "spotting" or should I call my dr?

I'm not really sure, but if you're seeing clots, I would call the doctor. If you are still nervous, you could always go to the ER so they can at least check the baby.

I had something similar... and the 2nd internal made me bleed for awhile.... if its really bad tomorrow just give them a call. if you get period like cramps with bleeding youmay be having contractions.

I would definitely call the doctor & tell him it's not just blood, it's clots.

If this helps, my son was born at 34.5 weeks, so you're almost to term now.

eta. and I wouldn't wait until tomorrow. Anything with the placenta should be checked out.

When I had my first internal I did spot afterwards, and there was a time when it seemed heavier and I ended up leaving work (it was the next day) because it worried me. I called my Dr, they said it was probbaly nothing but to go in anyway, and I was checked and all was fine.

Personally I would call your doctor and let her know what is going on. I wonder if you could be starting to lose your mucus plug? I would call, just explain your symptoms and see if she wants you to go in in the AM or just keep a watch on it all.

I was friends with a girl who worked in a doctor's office for a while and she told me that especially with things like this --- DO NOT hesitate to call if you are worried. That is exactly what they are there for and trust me, people call for things that are MUCH less of a big deal. Don't be embarassed or feel bad if you are genuinely worried about it.

thank you everyone. I know spotting is normal, but it is the clots that made me nervous. my dr. just called me back and he said it was ok. at this pt. the cervix and uterus is so sensitive that it can cause heavy bleeding, even clotting. he said it should be gone by tomorrow.

Great! Honestly I was worried for you but trying to downplay how much.

That was definitely worth the peace of mind before you go to bed.

The bleeding stopped last night, I woke up every hr. almost to go to the bathroom and check. And the baby is moving around just as much as usual. That was so scary. You start to think of all the possibilities.

I bled alot but not with clots and I it made me cramp really bad! Glad you are doing better!
