13 week ultrascreen questions
I am going for my 13 week ultrascreen tomorrow at north shore hospital. Can anyone fill me in on what exactly happens from start to finish. I know it is basically an ultrasound to detect downs syndrome. Any other help would be great !

Re: 13 week ultrascreen questions
I was there at 12 weeks about a week and a half ago. I am having twins but I assume it is the same. We spent the majority of our time with the tech. It was a guy, I think Greg was his name. He basically explained what they are looking for, he would take measurements, and a doctor would come in at the end to let us know how everything looked. At the end, you have a finger prick and they take 5 drops of blood to send out.
It was cool because they have a flat screen in the room that while you're on the bed and DH is next to you, you can see everything on the TV on the wall. He took measurements and then took pictures of the baby measuring the fluid behind the neck. The first baby took 15 minutes. The second one wouldn't get in the position he needed, so he shook my belly, made me cough, stand up. The baby was moving but not in the right spot. So we were there 45 minutes just trying to get a shot.
He got what we he needed. I got some pics. And they actually look like babies!!
After that, the doc came in for 1 min. And told us everything looked good and it would take about a week for my OB to get the blood work results.
Good luck tomorrow!!!! Have fun!!! I loved looking at the babes for so long!!!

Re: 13 week ultrascreen questions
they measured all parts for me... the head, stomach, kidneys, heart, legs, arms, etc. they checked fluid levels as well.
they really just look at the internal organs of the baby to make sure things are developing as they should.
they also to the neck measurements for the downs syndrome stuff.
it was a fun one. lots of shots and pics.
