10 months old and still doesn't hold her bottle

Anyone else's DC a realllly late bottle holder? We try & try with her, she's just not into it. Even with the sippy cup, we have to hold her hands onto it. Is she just going to start holding them one day?

This bugs me too. My DD is 1 and doesn't hold her bottle or sippy cups. I think she likes when I hold it for her. I'm trying to get her to do it but she just won't. Besides right now I do enjoy feeding her. I'm sure eventually she'll want to do it herself.

That's the thing. I actually like giving her the bottles, so I really don't mind it. But, we do still encourage her to try it on her own b/c I feel it's good for her development. I do treasure feeding time still though Chat Icon

Are you her primary caregiver? I found that DS held his own bottle for his nanny around 6 months but not for me! I nursed him though so I think he associated me with that. He would hold onto me though and that I liked Chat Icon

I work 4 days a week so MIL watches her those days. She has never held the bottle, even for MIL or DH. That is interesting though!

ds plays with his bottles and sippys most of the time... he is more interested in drinking straight from a regular cup...

Why hold your own bottle when you can lay back and have someone else hold it for you? Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Ella was never a fan of holding her bottles. She could do it, but chose not to (ever). She holds her sippy cups though (she was off bottles by 12m - I think if she was on them longer she would have started holding them as she got more independent)

Re: 10 months old and still doesn't hold her bottle

My DS does hold his bottle himself however unless I coax him to do it when I'm feeding him he'd just as soon rather me hold it. What I do is while he's laying in my arms I put the bottle in front of him upright and then he grabs it and holds it himself. Maybe if you practice this way and try to coax that might help.

DS has been holding his bottle the past month (it started the week after we met up). I pretty much put his hands on it and sit holding him and he does it. I also treasure the time and find that he will only do it when someone is holding him. He wont do it in the highchair or if hes sitting up straight. Also toward the end of the bottle, he likes us to take over (i think its prob tiring holding it up that long). do you also hold her while giving her the sippy cup? I haven't tried it yet as hes still not drinking from it regularly and i have been trying to get him used to the sippy only in the highchair or sitting without us holding him. but i am wondering if maybe i should try holding him with it too

Have you tried different positions? DS started holding his bottles while laying down, because he didn't have to lift it too much to get anything out of it. He is now trying to lift it in normal postions, but still hasn't lifted it too much while in normal sitting position. Althouhg in that position he tries so hard to suck out of it. But he's still typically BF, so he is all confused.

Re: 10 months old and still doesn't hold her bottle

My DS is 8 months old and has been holding his own bottle for awhile now but I feel it's because he has been in daycare since he was about 3 months old and they started having him do it on his own.

I would try it a little each day and they will get the hang of it.

I was going to say the same thing. When I first started trying to get my son to hold his bottle he would not do it in my lap, so I laid him down on his boppy and then he started doing it. I needed to step away from him, and then he realized if he did not hold it he could not drink it. Another thing you can try is putting him in his high chair and reclining it a bit.

Mine does it, but she is watching a few older kids that she's in daycare with. I think that motivates her to do these kinds of things.

Mine is 9.5 months and will sometimes hold her bottle. I have started just giving it to her and she will fed herself. But what's funny is now i started giving her crackers and she will actually open her mouth for me to feed her. She's just plain lazy!

Re: 10 months old and still doesn't hold her bottle

Noah doesnt either and he is 11 months in a few days.

HE did hold it briefly for a period at around 6 and 1/2 months then he said "to heck with this" and now REFUSES.

IF I so much as place his hands on the bottle while hes drinking he has a serious meltdown...

So I choose my battles and deal.

Good luck

Lily is 11 months and still refuses. SHe can - but why bother if I'm there to hold it for her. Just just started to figure out the sippy cup the other day, after a few months of playing with it.

I'm not really worried though - they'll get the hang of it eventually.

My DD will be 10 months this week & still will not hold her bottle...she'll hold her sippy cup (but doesn't drink from it, just gnaws on it)...I think it may be b/c the bottle is too long for her??
