1 yr old hititng
my twins are 13 months old.
my girl is the wild one,she is non stop energy and gave up napping at 9 months
past month or so she thinks it is HYSTERICAL to hit her brother..first it was a friendly slap and he didn't flinch but now she has picked up toys bonked him in the head and ran away hysterical laughing
i know she thinks it is a game and or that its funny
i have tried telling her sternly no and she laughs in my face.. my ped said it is very common with twins and to look at her directly in the face and say no did that and no use
the only thing that sort of works is oddly enough i give her a dirty/stern look and she doesn't like it but it does not work always
the other day she picked up a Thomas the train toy and bashed him in the head,he was hysterical crying and i was so upset i put her in the pnp while i held him and she bawled and looked confused and i felt terrible
is it a phase? should i keep doing the pnp her scream broke my heart but i can do it if its the best thing
i don't want to separate them playing bc they have so much fun together,ya know when she is not beating him up lol
thanks! sorry so long

If the putting her in the pack n play for time out is what gets her attention then I would continue to use it. Every time she hits her brother I would immediately tell her sternly we don't hit, that hurts brother, we play nice scoop her up and into the pack n play for at least one min. During that min you lavish attention on DS. She will get it quick enough.

I agree. Make sure your reaction is immediate and consistent and stay firm with her. It is a phase and she will grow out of it but since you have twins you want to stay on top of it so she doesn't hurt her brother. My son went through a hitting phase and it lasted a couple of months. They get it eventually. GL!

ITA! We went through hitting with DD when she was over 2. Now turning 3 and SO much better, but will sometimes still resort to it when she's feeling frustrated. I spoke to her doc at one point and she said time outs had to make her upset otherwise they weren't doing anything. They have to understand "if I do that, then I get this negative reaction" and so she won't want to do it again.
