1 hr glucose test question
Is the test basically just drawing blood? Also, How long does it take to get the results? I have an appointment tomorrow and just wondering how long I will have to wait to hear anything back about it. So nervous!

Re: 1 hr glucose test question
I went in - drank a really sweet orange drink and an hour later had my blood drawn. Results were back fairly quickly...like a few days or so. But make sure you ask if they call...my practice had the "no news is good news" approach which can be frustrating so I called and asked.

Re: 1 hr glucose test question
Thanks for letting me know. My doctor is also usually "no news is good news". We haven't really heard anything about ANY of the tests we take. They tell us everything is always "good" at our next appointments but no details. I guess I can wait a couple of days! I'd really hate to have to take the 3 hour...

Re: 1 hr glucose test question
They had given me mine beforehand so I drank it at home, wrote down the time, and went there a half hour later. (I took the red one -- it tasted fine to me.) They drew my blood and I actually had an appointment that day as well.
I didn't hear back for almost a week. I tried calling 3 days later but they still hadn't received the results. By a week later they had them.
I didn't eat after around 8 pm the night before (my appointment/draw was around 9:30 the next morning). So after my appointment I went and ate. I passed with a 105. Hope it goes this well the second time!

Re: 1 hr glucose test question
I was told not to eat anything for at least 3 hours beforehand, but if you had to eat something, make it only protein (like eggs or something) -- no bread/carbs or sugar -- because anything else could skew the results. Since mine was 9 am, I didn't eat that morning.

Re: 1 hr glucose test question
Okay thanks. I'm hungry now, I can't imagine not eating in the morning. My appointment isn't until 10, so I have to drink the liquid around 9. I think I'll have 1 or 2 plain scrambled eggs just to make it through the test and appointment.
