I voted for not wrong at all.
Having similar MIL situations I find it AMAZING that when she wants to she can speak PERFECT english... and other times she acts like she can't make a complete sentence.
ETA: I probably would have done the same thing but my MIL would not have given up so easily... usually if she plays dumb I play dumb and say " I dunno ask your son"

IMO it was a little petty. I never try to increase any tension that may already exist. IMO if you knew she was trying to talk to you i would have responded with a "ummm are you talking to me?" "sorry didn't understand your question?".
You ignoring her makes you look petty despite her rudeness.

I agree that it may have made you look as bad as your making what she did out to be...
You cannot change people...you will have to learn this fast and learn to find a way to deal with it. I did with my MIL and we have a much better relationship because of my basically giving in..
