Re: Facebook is not for kids
That gave me the chills. It is so sad how easily information is given out without realizing it....even on this website.

Re: Facebook is not for kids
Yeah, and I have a friend who's all, "Oh, my kids know what they are doing." Their kids have something like 700 facebook friends. I'm sure that all someone has to do is say, "I know your friend so and so," and they'll get into a chat.

Re: Facebook is not for kids
What a great post! So many parents don't take this risks seriously and it is very scary. When my kids are old enough, the computer will be in the family room and everything they do will be monitored. in my opinion a child has no right to privacy on the internet when they are not fully aware of the potential dangers that chatting with a "friend" can entail. Better safe than sorry is the way to go, even if the kids get angry about their lack of privacy. If parents talk about the dangers and expalin what is allowed and let their children know their interent time will be monitored, I want to believe that the kids will be that much more responsible.

Re: Facebook is not for kids
We are "friends" with my youngest stepdaughter - we monitor who her FB friends are and watch her wall posts, etc - the good thing about FB is that there are no screen ames, there are full names and pictures and underneath it says the school the kids are from - most of her friends are kids from school, our friends, or our older stepdaughters friends....

Re: Facebook is not for kids
It's a made-up story (the original authors even mentioned that, but it got lost in the InterWebs...) http://www.snopes.com/horrors/parental/shannon.asp
It's still a good message though about making sure DC don't give out important information.
