Re: JOIN SENATOR LAVALLE IN SUSPENDING THE STATE TAX ON GAS

CT is trying to do this too. The demo's and rep. are fighting over it, it prob wont' pass for us.

CT has the highest gas tax in the nation, it would be nice if they give us a break for a couple months.

Re: JOIN SENATOR LAVALLE IN SUSPENDING THE STATE TAX ON GAS

I think the suspension of the gas tax could lead to greater problems down the road as it would create a huge deficit to the state budget. I do think that the tax can and should be lowered but not completely lifted.

Re: JOIN SENATOR LAVALLE IN SUSPENDING THE STATE TAX ON GAS

This is the dumbest thing I have ever heard

1) it will RAISE the demand for gas, raising the prices further and the impact on the environment.

2) The savings to the individual consumer is minimal

3) It will take millions from the state budget

Gas will cost basically the same, but instead of the money going to the state for services we all need, the money will go to the gas companies once the prices increase with demand.

I agree.
It is idiotic.
You know, as Americans we just don't want to change our consumption- we think we have a RIGHT for cheap gas- and that isn't the case.
I read an Op-Ed in NYTimes about how in a few months, the tax credits for companies investing in alternative energy, like wind, are going to end- and Congress is doing nothing about it- but has no problem extending tax credits to big oil Chat Icon
It is time for all of us to get over this oil addiction and force the government to do something REAL as it relates to alternative energy.

Re: JOIN SENATOR LAVALLE IN SUSPENDING THE STATE TAX ON GAS

Dear Senator,

Why don't you introduce legislation that will actually MEAN something. This idea is completely moronic. The gas companies are making record profits and we're supposed to sit here like grateful dogs happy with table scraps.

Why don't you all be leaders and come up with something that will stand up to the Federal government that the people of New York can rally behind. A New Yorker should be ashamed at such a lame attempt to try and please their constituents.

GET TO WORK!

Re: .

I wish you hadnt deleted the thread. I thought it was a good thread on a hot topic, and hopefully will educate the many people who want to jump on the gas tax vacation band wagon. IMO, it's a bad idea.

A good majority of the responses (including yours) seemed to be rather inflamitory.

In an effort to keep the boards drama free, I deleted it.

It's one thing to state an opinion, it's another to state it in a way thats not antagonistic.

I am sorry that you felt attacked since I agree with Jen. I was not attacking the fact that you posted it, I think that's good. But Senator LaValle and the others need to do something that is long term and develop an energy plan for the long term. This temporary reprieve is not going to help anyone other than the oil companies.

In the end as it will severely impact the highway fund it will cost many construction workers their jobs and thus pulling the economy even further down. There are so many men that make a living out of the summer highway repairs that will go unfunded because that tax will be removed.

In the end the 18 cents that would be saved is just going to be raised by the oil companies.

But I don't think you should have deleted something that your posted from a senator. No one was calling you dumb, just the senator's idea. I am sorry if you felt attacked by my agreeing with Jen.

I wasn't intentionally being antagonistic. It wasn't YOUR idea.

Re: .

I didn't feel personally attacked (it wasn't my plan that I posted) but I did feel using words like "stupid" and "idiotic" to express ones opinion can only bring out the worst in people.

I am all for varying opinions, but like I said, in the interest of keeping the boards tame, I felt deleting the post was the best route to take.

I know it wasn't my idea and I know you weren't attacking me personally, hence my original reply of "no really, tell us how you really feel Chat Icon

Whether you realize it or not, saying "This is the dumbest thing I have ever heard" is an inflamitory statement and can lead to problems.

There have been a lot of complaints about drama and arguing on the boards. I felt that your comment and the other one (I forget who responded after you) could stir up drama so I deleted it.

If you're so inclined, I'm sure you could google the issue and post it yourself.

Re: .

Many people posted about how dumb they think the stimulus plan is, no drama there. I didn't see this is a potential drama starting topic. but ok!

Sorry!

It's just something that makes me REALLY angry. They are wasting time and money to make gas companies richer and people believe it will actually help them when it won't. It just shows how backwards gov't can be at all levels.
