What do you think are the better areas to live in in Eastern Nassau/Western Suffolk in terms of crime, school districts, prices?
Good and the bad?

I'm from that area, but I only know north shore. Good areas I would live in are Northport, Centerport, Cold Spring Harbor, Syosset etc. Of course, those are very very expensive areas.

we live in west babylon/east farmingdale and I love where we are. The schools are WB schools, which are good schools (not the best, but far from the worst).
Houses are very reasonable in my area.

I really like where we live now: South Shore, western Suffolk. The Babylon (esp. Babylon Village and West Babylon) / West Islip area is great and the schools are good. I work in Farmingdale, and would recommend the schools there too, so Massapequa / parts of Farmingdale might be good for you too. Good luck!
