Re: What is a Level II??

Not a dumb question!

Also sometimes called an 'anatomy scan', it's a sono done around 18-20 weeks usually, where they extensively look at & measure lots of baby parts, from the mouth, head, legs, heart, everywhere!!!! It usually takes longer than a regular sono, but is done the same way. They can usually tell you the sex of the baby if baby cooperates too, if you want to know. It's really cool, especially if you get a good sono tech who will explain to you what you're seeing on the screen (legs, heart, etc.). They take TONS of measurements to gague the baby's overall health, detect any problems, etc. It's a fun thing to watch!

ETA: I didn't realize there was a difference in the Level II and anatomy scan, so I learned something new today too, from KateDevine! Chat Icon

Re: What is a Level II??

Well, most people refer to the sonogram where you find out the sex as the "level II". It is usually between 18 weeks and like 20 weeks.

In reality, a lot of people don't actually have a level II. I will refer to the sono that I had at 18 weeks when we found out it was a boy as one, but in reality, mine wa sjust an anatomy scan where we got to see everything developing normally and mine was about a half hour.

An actual level II is very detailed and takes about an hour. But there doesn't seem to be a reason why people get one and not just a regular sonogram.
