Belly button
Hi everyone - I haven't had a sec to formally introduce myself on this side of the boards - but I have a quick question. DD's umbilical cord clip fell off overnight - she is just 5 days old. Should it have been on longer? And how do we clean it now? Will rubbing alcohol burn? Thanks!

Re: Belly button
You could use rubbing alcohol or warm water. I used warm water to get the rest of the dried blood off.
eta. You've been using rubbing alcohol every day to get it to dry out, right?

Re: Belly button
My daugther's umbilical cord came off before we even left the hospital, when she was 3 days old. The ped. said it was absolutely fine. Alcohol did not hurt, and it is important to keep it clean, or it can get infected. Good luck with your bundle of joy!

Re: Belly button
Thanks! Yes we've been putting rubbing alcohol on it. So will it burn if we continue to do it - to avoid infection?
