Re: Baby Food Poll
I make 95% of my baby food, its easy, cost effective and I know exactly what he is eating. I am by no means a health food freak, nor do I buy organic fruit and veggies, but I think that baby food in jars smells FOUL and tastes even worse! So I am sticking to making my own!!!
I make things like: Spaghetti Bolognaise, Shepherds Pie, Cauliflower with cheese sauce, Beef and Sweet Potato Casserole, Sweet Potatoes, Parsnip, leek and spinich puree...and I also give him leftovers from my own dinner if I can. I really really enjoy cooking for him and I love to watch him eat it!!!

Re: Baby Food Poll
I use both Gerber and Beechnut. But more often Beechnut. Also since Beechnut sells that case that has the fruit/veggie combo, I've been buying that more. I HATE opening the Gerber containers! I can't peel off the lid.

Re: Baby Food Poll
This is silly but for some reason I always said I would use Gerber but now that I am noticing they are being sold in those plastic containers instead of the little jars I am having second thoughts. For some reason I like the jars better. Crazy I know.

Re: Baby Food Poll
I HATE the plastic containers. They take up more room and the lids are sooo hard to get off I end up biting it off and then getting the food in my mouth

See, I think if getting the food in your own mouth grosses you out, why would you want to put it in your kids mouth??
I am on a one woman crusade to get you girls making your own babyfood!!!

Re: Baby Food Poll
I always made my own or used earth's best as a back up. He would only eat the fruit and veggies ones though.
I never gave him any kind of meat or chicken in jars, always made my own and he got used to it.
Once, in an emergency, I had to give him Gerber’s turkey and you should have seen the face he made, like “Ew, Mom, what are you thinking giving me this stuff!” He just spat it right out. I can’t blame him, that stuff smelled kind of bad... He ended up having lots of apple sauce for dinner that day! Can’t say he was unhappy about that..

What's the big hoopla about the organic ones anyways?
Less pesticides. Fewer additives in the stage 3 foods.
And the stage 1 and 2 foods.
Especially with meats and dairy, watch for hormones.
Ever wonder why some little girls get their period at age 8 or 9 now and when we were younger we got it at 12 or 13? I am convinced that is it from hormones in meat and dairy as well as pesticides in veggies and fruit. I have read some evidence that substantiates it. Although, I know many will disagree with me, I believe that is the reason why at age 8 my friend's DD got er period and was wearing a bra. The poor kid had no idea what was going on and my friend thought she had at least 2 more years before she had to have that converstion with her DD.

Just wanted to butt in and say that this is absolutely, positively true!!! One can read and hear about it from many different sources.
Which is why in our household, we only it ORGANIC dairy, meat and poultry!
BTW, I highly recommend everyone conducts a little experiment just for their own amusement: buy an organic chicken breast and a regular one. Even why it's raw, smell it, touch it, look at it. Huge difference! THen cook and eat both: you will never eat non organic meat again. And the thing is, with the current prices on grocery, organic will only cost you may be a dollar more per pound, if even that.
I guy organic chicken from Fresh Direct and it's $2.99 per lb. In my local supermarker, chicken breast is $2.39 a lbs. Might as well buy organic, KWIM...

I also use this theory when I see really skinny young girls with huge knockers! Surely the hormones in chicken breasts that make the breasts bigger have a similar effect in humans...think about it..it makes sense.
Then read "My Year of Meat" by Ruth Ozeki.
