Ultrascreens and other sonos
my doctor is not doing any more sonos till i am 20 weeks (i am 8 weeks, 5 days now), she sees me every 4 weeks till the big one though and i have my next appt at 10.5 weeks where hopefully she'll hear the HB in the office, should i ask/demand a sono or an ulltrascreen at that time? I am just not sure why some women get it done and some dont, such as is it related to age (i am only 26) Hope i am making sense Thanks!

Re: Ultrascreens and other sonos
I never had the ultrascreen with DD, it was never offered. I had 1 sono at 7 weeks, 1 at 12 weeks, then nothing til the level II at 20 weeks. I wouldn't have had the growth sono at 32 weeks if i hadn't gone to high risk for preterm contractions.
Some dr's are different, but if you are armed with info, there's no reason for you to be quiet, if you want the ultrascreen def ask for it!!
My dr's go according to my insurance allowance.

Some don't offer it. If you are interested in getting it I would request it at your next appointment.

Re: Ultrascreens and other sonos
I had a lot of sono's in the beginning due to bleeding, but for my doctors office standard is one around 8 weeks to see HB, then the ultrascreen between 11-13 weeks, the level 2 at 20 weeks...and that's it. I'm 38+ weeks and haven't seen my little since 20 weeks
ETA: I've requested a growth sono for weeks now - he said if there's no medical need, no sono

Re: Ultrascreens and other sonos
You can certaintly ask for the ultrascrren. Its used more frequently these days. I know even 5-7 years ago they rarely offered it. We had a choice to get it or not. Ask the Dr, It cant hurt.

Re: Ultrascreens and other sonos
I get more because I did IVF and am considered high risk due to age and multiples.
None of my friends (singleton pregnancies and younger) get as many.

Re: Ultrascreens and other sonos
My doctor did one at the first visit, sent me for the ultrascreen at 12 weeks, the Level II at 20 weeks and then a Growth Sono at the end because I had gestational diabetes.
