Diaper rash
Liam has had a diaper rash since Friday. It's very very bright red, it's one area on one side about the size of your thumb from top to first knuckle, and the other side of his tush has a smaller rash. It's a bit raised and (this sounds weird) but when I put Butt Paste on him it sort of slides off the actual area where the rash itself is, but sticks to the un-rash area of the skin. Is that normal?
How long can we expect the rash to stick around? Is 3 days alot? Should we have the pedi take a look at it?
TIA!

Re: Diaper rash
I put diaper cream all over the place to make sure it gets on where it needs to be. Just try to keep the bum area dry as much as possible. If the rash is still very severe after a couple of days you then let your ped know as it might be something else.
DD had diaper rash for about 4 days till it finally got better.

Re: Diaper rash
I swear by Triple Paste, Cole has only had a rash that lasted longer than a day once, but that once was while he was teething, it was raised and bumpy, and the ped. gave me a prescription for it. HTH

Re: Diaper rash
I swear by Triple Paste as well! My ped. recommended putting a layer of Bacitracin under the Triple Paste for an especially bad diaper rash. I hope that Liam is feeling better soon!

HTH I've seen Triple Paste otc, not with an Rx - I wonder if it's ths same strength or stronger with an Rx. I have read that some pedi's have their own ingredients to go into a triple paste. I'll have to find out if we do end up bringing Liam to the pedi for the rash. Thanks.

Unless it's an Rx, the Triple Paste I saw at Rite Aid (otc) had 12% zinc oxide and I have Sudocreme which is 15% and Butt Paste is 16% so I don't know if Triple Paste is going to help if I get it. But thanks, it's good to know other options out there!

Re: Diaper rash
I swear by letting the little bums air out.
WHen I would change her diaper I'd put a waterproof pad ( a big one) under her butt...and just would change her on the floor or my bed....and then I'd take the new diaper and fan her booty with it. I'd do it for a few minutes, then put a thick layer of butt paste on and repeat every time I changed her diaper.
You might also want to rule out the possibility that it could be a yeast infection. The doc can tell by looking at it and can prescribe nystatin cream for it, which will clear it up right away.

Yep he sure is teething. Gumming his fist a lot this weekend. He cut his first tooth 2 weeks ago. However unless the Rx for triple paste is more than Butt Paste do you think it would work? It's going away a little, if it doesn't seem to go away more I will do what you recommend. Thanks!

Re: Diaper rash
if it has red raised bumps it could be fungal and for that you would need a prescription for nystatin. all the butt paste in the world can't cure yeast!!!!

Re: Diaper rash
If it turns out its not a rash that requires a scrip, my doctor says to apply milk to their red area. Ive done it for my kids when theyve had it and it helps relieve the pain, alot from what I can tell from their reaction. I put the baby down on a thick towel and trickle milk onto it with cotton balls. Warm the milk a little so to take the chill off. The ped also says you can put milk of magnesia right in their diaper - I kid you not. As far as a cream, my favorite for a particularly horrid rash is butt paste with triple paste on top. Tons of it. Good luck, the poor thing!

I guess he is not allergic, the formula has milk in it so if he was we'd know by now. Thanks!
