Is it me or is this entirely gross?

Yesterday, Dh and I picked DD up from Daycare and BOTH of her bottles had the wrong caps on them.
I was livid, considering right now there are 2 babies in her room with croup, 2 others are sick with really bad colds and poor Gianna seriously has been sick consectively since i started work on 9/18/06.

I am not a germ freak, but I just have this vision of saliva transfer on top of her bottles.

So i said something to the director and her teachers. They all got defensive saying these things happen when the classroom is full and that they rinse the caps anyways.

Is it me just getting grossed out? I see that like a total stranger coming up to you in a restaurant and drinking from your straw then wiping it with a napkin.

They were so blah about it. No one else in her room labels things, i am constantly finding toys that don't belong to her, bibs in her bag that aren't hers, clothes that aren't hers, they were even putting a blanket on her that wasn't hers for weeks til i took it and gave it to the teacher after weeks saying this isn't hers. Everything we send is labeled, and now even the caps.

Am i overreacting? Does this happen to anyone else?

I do not have any experience with daycare - but yes this to me is unacceptable.
I can understand if it happen once - but it has been happening all of the time and they don't seem to care Chat Icon

Jake is not in a daycare center but group family care and this stuff does not happen... granted there are only 4 kids total. I don't think you are overreacting...I'd be annoyed too.

If it is a licensed center they are required by State regs to have everything labeled for each child with first and last name. Your center should have the regs posted so you can use it for a point of reference.Chat Icon

You are not overreacting. It hasn't happened lately, but we had a few incidents like that. The first week Nate was in daycare, he came home wearing another kid's sock. Then there was a pacifier that kept appearing in his basket. Both DH and I told one of the teachers that it wasn't his at least twice. Finally, I just threw the dang thing out the next time I saw it.

Re: Is it me or is this entirely gross?

My daughter works in a daycare facility and tells me that when a parent brings something in for their child it must be labeled and only is used by that child. While, occasionally, a mix-up may occur, for it to be happening on a continuous basis is something that needs to be addressed by the director of the facility. I know how hard these people work because I see my daughter at the end of her shift, but, their job is to make sure that your child and every other child is getting the attention they need and deserve. If they can't keep track of caps, bibs and blankets, how would they be able to handle medication that needs to be administered. I would, definitely, have a sit-down talk with the director and, if it continues to happen, maybe a change is needed to another daycare.

That never happened too me. I would not allow that. the teacher needs to make sure that she is putting the correct nipples on the correct bottles. period.

Annoying, but considering they all probably suck on the same toys, I'm just not sure it matters.

Re: Is it me or is this entirely gross?

I agree with you and I would complain again. To their defense, is it just bottles that are labeled not the tops? So realistically if I was washing out more than one babies' bottles I could mix them up. However, that should not mean it's ok if they mix stuff up. They should be more careful when washing out the bottles. As for the bibs are they labeled? If so then they are in the wrong. Once in awhile is one thing but to constantly mix up stuff is carelessness. I hope they will get on the ball about it!
