What can you tell me about Farmingdale???
I'm going to be living in S. Farmingdale. I'm near the Farmingdale H.S. I've been reading some not so good things about the woods that border the area...is this something I should be worried about???

Re: What can you tell me about Farmingdale???
I live across the street from the woods now and their are no problems what's so every but I am closer to main st. When I went to Farmingdale H.S. (I graduated in 99) I lived in Massapequa Park but went to Farmingdale schools and lived right across from the woods also but on the other side of the S.S. We could actually see the school from my house in the winter months and their were no problems. You use to to able to cut through to the bike path from the football field but not anymore. They put up a 10ft fence all the way around the woods so no-one could cross. My cousin's live in Viceroy (if you take the bike bath again it is one of the openings it lets you in or out) and he walks through the woods alot to come to our house and he never has any problems and he usually does it is at night. I wouldnt be worried at all I really dont know anything else except living across from woods like I stated eariler. I am always walking to the highschool and pass it at various times and sometimes when school lets out and it seems fine. The only thing I do not like but it doesnt matter where you live is that the kids drive pretty fast down main roads.

Re: What can you tell me about Farmingdale???
Stef-
I live about 5 blocks from where your new house is.
Seles is pretty much right on. The woods that run along arent really woods - there used to be a creek there (its pretty much dried up) and on the other side are the houses in Viceroy.
WHen I attended the keggers in the woods back in the day, they were in the woods in north massapequa -
the only time kids are walking around the neighborhood at nite is when there is a football game on friday nites. but i havent had any problems.
and high school kids fly down woodward parkway - but at the times when school starts and ends there are usually cops hiding down the side roads waiting to pull them over.
my best friend lives across the street and goes running on the bike path by herself all the time (she takes her cell).

Re: What can you tell me about Farmingdale???
I read something about someone being robbed at gunpoint in the woods...some teenagers from the high school.
I live right off of Woodward Pkway...I guess I'll be hearing the zooming of the cars as well.

Re: What can you tell me about Farmingdale???
It's not bad, HS kids hang out and drink there (at least they did when I was in HS). It's not any more risky than any other neighborhood.

I grew up in Farmingdale, very close to where you will be!! There are always rumors about things happening over there but I don't think most of it is true, other than kids drinking in the woods... I am still in Farmingdale but a different area... if you have any questions please feel free to FM!!

My Aunt lives on 8th Avenue off of Woodward, just a couple of blocks from the HS. As kids, we would always go walking through there and playing in the woods. I haven't heard of anything bad about it either. My niece and nephew will be going to that HS next year.
