How do you hold your DC for shots?
We moved so I had to get a new pediatrician. Today was our 1st appointment and for her shot they wouldn't let me hold sidney on my lap (like I had for every other shot given to her at her old dr's office)
They made me lay her down on the table, pin her arms down and press my body over hers to keep her still. I was horrified!!!!
A friend goes to this practice and she didn't know any dr's did it another way. What are your thoughts??
Plus they didn't have separate waiting rooms for sick and well kids....is this just a long island thing?

I hold Sara on my lap when she gets shots. At our ped offic there is one long room - one side is sick and the other well. It is a good distance of separation too. There is however a newborn waiting room .

Re: How do you hold your DC for shots?
DS is on the table and I just hold his hands. I never had him on my lap or had to pin his arms down. I would be terrified to if I had to do what you did. I am sorry to hear that!
Oh, and I forgot to mention that there is a seperate room for kids who are sick and a newborn waiting area.

Usuallly she lies on the table, but I don't have to pin her down!
Last week she had her flu shot and she stood on the table with me hugging her, the nurse quick pulled her pants down a little to get it in her thigh. It was great, Katie barely noticed. I took it worse then she did.

You know...I was just worried about sidney being exposed to sick kids when she is well....I didn't even think about if/when I have another child. There is NO WAY I am bringing a newborn into that office.
I think I need to start looking for a new office! ARGH!!!

DS lies on the table and I hold both his hand the doctor holds his legs tightly so he doesnt move. I know their is another room in the office but I dont know if it is a waiting room for sick children. For newborns and up to 6 months you are always the first appointment. At the previous ped I used her appointments for newborns were scheduled at 8 am.

Re: How do you hold your DC for shots?
I would rather hold him on my lap but the pedi's office does it the way you describe. I figured that's just the way it's done. I will ask the next time now.
And we go to a pedi in upper Westchester near Peekskill near where we live, and they have a separate waiting area for sick children too. I like that idea. I just don't know which is which! LOL! I've probably had him sitting in the sick room every time!

Re: How do you hold your DC for shots?
I've done it both ways. Sometimes I hold her somtimes she lays on the table no holding down though. No separate waiting area but when we go for a well visit they never have us wait in the waiting area they always tell me as soon as I walk in to go into one of the exam rooms. And I always take an earlier in the day appt. The older sick kids usually don't come in til after school then it's jammed full of kids.

Re: How do you hold your DC for shots?
Our ped's office has separate waiting rooms. We also have to hold Jesse's upper body down while the nurse holds his leg steady to give the shot. I don't know if this is because he moves so much. We've always done it this way.

Re: How do you hold your DC for shots?
Christopher lays on the table and I have to hold his hands. I think it's just a precaution so he doesn't try to grab the needle.
